The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission (AGFC) held a Youth Modern Gun Deer Hunt over the Nov 6th weekend and some local kids understood the assignment. AGFC says thousands of kids participated across Arkansas. The following is a gallery of local kids with the results of their hunt!
Hunter Oates, age 12 from Alexander, 7th grader at Bethel. Shot with a .243 rifle the second day of the youth hunt, Sunday Nov. 7 at 9:40am on a private lease near Bauxite, AR, with his grandpa Louis Oates and dad Chase Oates.
Joel Hathorn, age 9 of Benton, with his 7-point from Nov 6th.
Josiah Stovall, age 6 of Bauxite. On a friend’s property just past Riverside on Hwy 5. His dad (pictured right) is Andrew Stovall. The 5-point just after sunset and 20 minutes later, the 8-point walked out. He got them both in Saline County, Highway 5 S.

Luke Penn 6 years old from Benton. This is his first deer, an 8-point from Garland County.
Kennedy Stroud, age 14 of Benton. This is Kennedy’s first deer, a doe from Nov 6th.
Cooper Camferdam, 14 yrs old brought home this deer from Saline County.

Bradley Henry, age 14, of Benton, attends Benton Junior High. Both deer were from Sunday Nov. 7th in Garland County with his Uncle Shawn (Miller) also from Benton.
Drake Castillo, 7 years old, of Benton got this deer Saturday, Nov 6th. This was his first youth hunt. It was in Saline county – one buck morning hunt (his first) and a buck in the afternoon hunt.
Hunter Kindy, age 15, of Benton. He got this deer on Nov 6th.
Christian Bagley, Age 8 of Benton got this deer.
Easton Martin, age 9 got his first deer, 5 points, in his back yard on Sunday afternoon. He was with his dad Aaron Martin.
Ryan Green, age 15 of Bryant, got this 7-point deer with a bow in Clark County Zone 12.
Shaun Johnson, age 14, got “Spike” on November 7th in Zone 12.
Tyler J. Johnson, age 11 from Sardis got these 2 boars and a button buck in Rison.
Bennett Martin, age 6, got this 5-point on November 7th in Zone 12.
Gracie Fowler, age 9, of Mabelvale got her first deer. This button buck was in Grant County, Zone 12.
Kota Garner, age 15 of Benton, got this 13-point in Jefferson County.
Hunter Hritz, age 14 of Benton, got this 9-point with a 273 yard shot.
Brody Williams, age 12, brought this 7-point deer.
Jacie Goines, age 9 of Bauxite got this 9-point deer, her first deer.

Channing Shackelford, age 6, of Benton got this deer Sunday night Nov 7th in Grant County.
Cody Roberts, 9 years old, of Haskell, got this 7-point the morning of opening day youth hunt in Saline County.

All zones: Jan 1-2, 2022. All youth hunters must have a FREE customer ID. Only hunters 6-15 years old may harvest deer during the special youth modern gun deer hunt. Youths who have not completed hunter education must be under the direct supervision of an adult at least 21 years old. Mentors may not hunt any species during the hunt. All zone bag limits apply during the youth hunt.
No dogs. “Direct Supervision” is defined as within arm’s reach.
Exceptions:
- Bowhunters may hunt during the youth hunt, but must wear hunter orange or chartreuse.
- Some WMAs have permit-based youth seasons, or are otherwise closed to deer hunting during youth season. Check pages 78-126 in the hunting guidebook: https://bit.ly/3ufJRdt
