So you want to know more about the closing of Western Sizzlin… I can tell you there’s more to tell, but in respect for the owners/operators, I can’t tell you 99% of what I know.
You already know from reading the previous article below, that WS will have its last day open on Sunday, January 6th. There is a slim chance they’ll be open a day or two longer – depending on how much inventory is left at the end of the day.
What I can say is that I spoke with Elgin Hamner, Jr., who operates Western Sizzlin. He is the son of the owner, whose name is Elgin Hamner, Sr., as you might guess. The family does own the property, so you’d also guess something will be done with the property. There will be something done. I wish I could say more about that, but Hamner has a set date to tell what’s next after WS closes. The focus for now will be paying tribute to a four-decade tradition of a family restaurant. Go see them, reminisce, take pictures, say goodbye (email me your pictures at [email protected]) and then we’ll move on to the next subject. I bet I’ll even have live video for you to see.
Here are a few pictures I took when I visited with Hamner on Thursday morning:
Western Sizzlin has been around for 40 years, but the owner, Elgin Hamner says their Flamekist days are done. Your last chance to see them will be January 6th, 2019. See the announcement below, posted on social media Wednesday afternoon. More info to come.
