Saline County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies responded to a call Sunday evening December 27th in the White Oaks subdivision in Salem. Two men,
Matthew Ashford, age 20, and Joseph Willis, age 18, both of Benton, were arrested and charged with:
- Residential Burglary,
- Aggravated Assault,
- Disorderly Conduct and
- Possession of Controlled Substance Sch VI W/Intent to Deliver.
The victim and both suspects knew each other, according to SCSO Lt. Gilliam. Residents speculated in a neighborhood watch group on social media that it may have been a set-up involving the purchase of a PS5, but “that does not appear to be the case and it is still under investigation at this time,” stated Gilliam.
He said it’s possible the suspects initially went to a wrong address nearby. Both suspects were booked and released on Monday.
