The Saline County Library theatre group, SCL Theatre: The Rising Star Players, will perform a virtual holiday radio show titled “When Icicles Glisten” on Monday, December 21st at 7:00 p.m. This play will be posted on the Library’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/salinecountylib.
This radio show features a magical storyteller as she brings to life the next great Christmas adventure! You will follow the story of a brother and sister duo as they set out on a journey to save their family. With danger lurking around every corner, will the siblings be able to overcome their own imperfections and make their Christmas miracle come true?
The Rising Star Players consists of ten young actors, age 9-18, who have been working since September on their line memorization, acting technique, overall theatre etiquette, and more. Over the last several weeks, these young actors have safely recorded their parts to be pieced together with the narrator’s scenes and the illustrators’ designs.
Brian Roberson and Mason Newberry, the show Directors, wrote the original script and have directed the acting, voiceovers, and narration. Tween Librarian, Miss Jessica, helped facilitate the program and local artist, Randall Earnest, illustrated the show.
“This play will be the new local holiday classic for years to come,” says Roberson. “My team has taken the pandemic head-on and produced one of only a few shows, an animated show at that, in the entire state this year. Their hard work is unmatched as they didn’t sit around and wait for a show to happen, they made one happen.”
The cast is as follows:
- Evalyn Russom as the Storyteller,
- Scarlett Morehead as David Chestnut,
- Abigail Haggard as Flora Chestnut,
- Hadley Squires as Loretta Chestnut/Gingerguard/Elves,
- Matthew Cantone as Governor Ging G. Gingerbread/Gerald Chestnut,
- Gabriel Wortham as Fros Telleux,
- Dina Liachenko as Mysterious Voice/Elves/Gingerguard,
- K’Torri Greenwood as Hayden Chestnut,
- Madison Picking as Houlihan McStuffins, and
- Ashlyn Picking as Jackie Frost.
“I couldn’t be prouder of my actors’ personal growth,” says Roberson, “as well as the quality of the finished product they have given to us. The holidays will have one present more this year after this show debuts.”
The Rising Star Players will continue next semester with another production.
