Okay so Black Widow roared into theaters this weekend and brought in more than $80 million. It also brought in an additional $60 million from streaming service Disney+.
The main events of the story take place just after “Captain America: Civil War.” Natasha Romanoff aka “Black Widow” has to confront the darker parts of her past and her ledger. However, as these things go, a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a relentless force determined to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy, and all of her broken relationships before she joined up with The Avengers.
So there’s what the movie is about, but you probably already knew that. You’re reading this review because you want to know what I thought about the movie. Right? You sit at home all week waiting for these reviews before you decide to watch anything. Right? ?
Well, are you ready? Okay. Here goes. To me… it was just pretty good. It’s worth watching, but I likely won’t re-watch it like I have most of the MCU movies. There’s a lot of heart in this film and I like that. It answers a few questions of Natasha’s past. And there are some good fight sequences. It seems to have it all, but it’s still just pretty good (okay) to me.
So why am NOT giving this one 3 thumbs up? (You read that right.?) Honestly, I don’t really know. Maybe I just didn’t pay close enough attention every minute. I kinda lost interest a few times. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat during this one. For me it wasn’t a white-knuckle movie. It’s certainly not my least favorite movie in the MCU franchise, but it’s probably in my top 5 least favorites.
Now you’re probably shouting into the rafters, “Do I go see it or not, Chris?!” I don’t know. Why are you asking me? I’m the guy that went to see “Dumb and Dumber” 13 times in theaters. I stood in line at the very first showing on the very first day to see “Beavis & Butthead Do America.” What do I know about good movies?! Hey! Don’t judge my taste in movies!
Shoot! I’m getting off track. So, should you watch Black Widow? Yeah sure. It’s not a BAD movie by any means. It’s just not my favorite. I certainly would rank it above “Thor 2” and “Iron Man 3.” I didn’t like either of those at all. Did you?
Okay I need to go board a plane now. It’s 111 degrees here in Vegas. I gotta get back to Arkansas where it’s cooler.
