The public is invited to a Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony in downtown Benton, Arkansas. Saline County has partnered with several others to honor the fallen at this event. Thanks to partners, the City of Benton, the City of Bryant, Benton Area Chamber of Commerce, Greater Bryant Chamber of Commerce, First United Methodist Church-Benton, VFW Post 2256, and local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter. The keynote will be delivered by Sergeant Paul Tarvin of the Bryant Police Department.

“Please join us as we have the opportunity to honor those who have served our country and show our appreciation to the men and women who have given so much”, said Saline County Judge Matt Brumley.
The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, March 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Saline County Veterans Memorial in front of the Saline County Courthouse. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the nearby First United Methodist Church Benton Family Life Center at W. Sevier St., across from the Courthouse. Parking for Veterans will be available on the Main St. & Sevier St. side of the Saline County Courthouse. Overflow parking will be available at the First United Methodist Church off Sevier St. A shuttle will transport attendees from the Methodist Church to the Veterans Memorial.
“Living with a survivor of the Vietnam War, I have a great respect and admiration for the men and women that sacrificed everything to keep freedom in the world. All are heroes in my book that deserve to be recognized for the heroes they are”, said Benton Mayor Tom Farmer.
Arkansas had 592 Veterans that were killed in action in the Vietnam War, including 10 Veterans from Saline County. The 592 Arkansas Veterans will be remembered with 592 small flags spread across the courthouse lawn. Additionally the 10 Saline County Veterans will be remembered with 10 large flags across the courthouse lawn.
Saline County Vietnam Veterans will be honored and remembered during the ceremony in which quilts of valor will be presented, taps performed, and a patriotic medley will be sung by the Benton High School Choir.
