Saline County has partnered with the Cities and Chambers of Commerce from Benton and Bryant, First United Methodist Church of Benton, VFW Post 2256, and local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter to host a Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony.
“Please join us as we have the opportunity to honor those who have served our country and show our appreciation to the men and women who have given so much,” said Saline County Judge Matt Brumley.
The ceremony will take place on Monday, March 31 at 6:00 p.m. at the Saline County Veterans Memorial in front of the Saline County Courthouse. If it rains, the ceremony will be moved to the Family Life Center at First United Methodist Church (W. Sevier St. across from Courthouse).
The ceremony will also be livestreamed on the Saline County Facebook Page (@SalineCounty) and the City of Benton YouTube Page (@BentonAR).
Parking for Veterans will be available on the Main & Sevier St. side of the Courthouse. Overflow parking will be available at the Methodist Church off Sevier St. A shuttle will transport attendees from the Methodist Church to the Veterans Memorial.
“Living with a survivor of the Vietnam War, I have a great respect and admiration for the men and women that sacrificed everything to keep freedom in the world. All are heroes in my book that deserve to be recognized for the heroes they are,” said Benton Mayor Tom Farmer.
There will be 592 small flags spread across the courthouse lawn as a tribute to all of the Arkansas Veterans killed in the Vietnam War. There will be 10 large flags across the courthouse lawn to pay tribute to all of the Saline County veterans killed in the Vietnam War.
Saline County Vietnam Veterans will be honored and remembered during the ceremony. Quilts of valor will be presented, “Taps” will be performed, and a patriotic medley will be sung by the Benton High School Choir. The keynote will be delivered by Colonel Joel Lynch.
