Brad Jordan, Economic Development Director for the City of Benton, addressed the community in a ceremony for a new sign that designates the historical downtown area of Benton. The sign sits in a small triangle of concrete owned by the City. It’s located at the south end of Military Road, intersecting with E. Narroway St. and N. Main St.
Jordan thanked Benton Mayor Mattingly and the Benton City Council for the project, property, electricity and guidance; the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program for a grant paying for a large part of the cost, Aaron Peters and Jason Hoffman with Ace Signs, Brad Hudson with Hudson Electric, the Benton Historic District Commission, and especially the downtown Benton merchants, whose idea it was to place the sign and who also put funds toward the project.
Video below is the ceremony, with Gary James of the Benton Area Chamber of Commerce, Jordan and Mattingly speaking, and Wanda Posey of the Benton Downtown Merchant’s Association, does the actual cutting of the ribbon.
And below is the sign by itself.
