The focus was job creation, tax cuts and reading levels, among other topics discussed by Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, who was the featured speaker at the first Legislative Breakfast of 2017. These events serve to update local citizens on what is going on in the current legislative session, there is a q&a segment, and breakfast is served. This breakfast was held Friday, January 27th, 2017 at the Benton Event Center, hosted by the three Chambers of Commerce in Benton, Bryant and Hot Springs Village. The Hot Springs Village POA provided the breakfast. I counted 134 people present in a panoramic photo taken by Roger Poole.
Gov. Hutchinson spoke about bringing jobs to Arkansas from China, tax cuts for lower income residents, efficiency in the state budget, a new state salary plan, free 2-year college or technical college for high-demand careers, more money for pre-K programs, the R.I.S.E. reading initiative, the Presidential inauguration he attended, exporting our agriculture and more.
Questions from the audience asked to expand on those topics as well as about special elections, highway funding, economic development in small towns, the hiring of a “transformation officer,” the prescription drug epidemic, and career technical education.
