Four veterans who put country above self and education will be awarded honorary high school diplomas from Bryant Public Schools. Two veterans will be honored posthumously. The diplomas will be presented during a Veteran Commencement Ceremony at Bryant High School on Monday, November 12, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Thanks to the Arkansas Department of Education Rules Governing Diplomas for Veterans, military personnel who served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War before they were able to graduate may now receive honorary high school diplomas. Any school district is welcome to offer a diploma. Qualifying veterans must have been honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States of America and be a resident of the state of Arkansas.
“We hope this commencement ceremony will be a small token of thanks to the veterans who risked everything. It’s never too late to recognize them for their service,” said Dr. Scott Walsh, president of the Bryant School Board.
Thousands of young men and women across the country left high school and the comforts of home to bravely serve in the armed forces during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. Their sacrifice ensured our freedom, built our great country, and helped shape history.
“It is an honor to recognize our veterans for the sacrifices they have made to ensure the freedom and safety of our country,” said Bryant Superintendent Karen Walters. “The honorary diplomas are a gesture of our gratitude and appreciation for their service and commitment to our nation.”
