Four Arkansas swim beaches and one lake parking lot are all temporarily closed.
The Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) closed Cranfield Beach at Norfork Lake Mountain Home, Oakland Park Beach on Bull Shoals Lake in Oakland, as well as Lost Bridge North and Damsite Peninsula, both on Beaver Lake in Garfield. The USACE reports that the E. Coli level showed higher than acceptable after routine testing.
According to a statement from USACE, signs are posted, indicating high bacteria levels at these locations. Swimming is not recommended in areas with high bacteria levels. Once bacteria levels are within the acceptable range the swim beaches will reopen. Follow USACE for updates at https://www.facebook.com/littlerockusace.
On the other end of the state, Millwood Lake will have a parking lot closure at Yarborough Landing in Ashdown.
Beginning May 22, USACE, Millwood Lake Project Office, Little River County and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) will partner to expand and improve fishing and boating access at this location.
According to a statement from AGFC, the first phase is site work, drainage, base preparation and asphalt on a 163,943-square-foot parking area. This will provide 138 spaces for vehicles with trailers and 11 single vehicle spaces.
