We learned in December that the splash pad on the west side of Tyndall Park would be upgraded, using a grant for $150,000. The construction begins next week. The City has released the illustrations above and below to show the planned improvements. The water feature will be an all-inclusive amenity. See more information below, in the previous article.
PREVIOUSLY, DEC 10, 2019:
Benton Parks and Recreation recently received a grant to expand the splash pad at Tyndall Park (map). The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism awarded the $150,000 grant as part of Arkansas’ Outdoor Recreation Grant program.
The Parks Department held four outreach meetings as well as a public hearing that included; Benton School District, Saline County Boys and Girls Club, Autism Alliance of Saline County and Horton’s Orthotics and Prosthetics. Both kids and adults had input on certain amenities that could be included in the project.
Stephanie Jones, Director of Benton Parks and Recreation stated, “We are continuously striving to make our facilities and amenities inclusive. I am proud of the work our team has done to optimize our use of taxpayer funds.”
Mayor Tom Farmer added, “We appreciate Stephanie and Daniel (Assistant Parks Director) for all their hard work with this project because it allows our citizens to have more quality family time. It also provides everyone a better quality of life by offering an active water park for all to enjoy.”
The City of Benton is required to provide a match of $150,000 for the total project budget of $300,000.
