I took a walk around Tyndall Park on Sunday, for two reasons – one, I’m chubby like everyone else in this pandemic, and two, someone asked me what’s being built at the northwest corner of the park (E. Sevier & S. 4th Streets). I easily found the answer through the wonderful folks at the Benton Parks and Recreation Department – it’s a basketball court – but I wanted go see the progress myself.
I was walking and out of breath because of the aforementioned chubbiness, so don’t bother scrolling for a picture of the progress. However, you can drive by whenever, or walk by like I did. It’s well on its way, with curbs and sidewalks, but it’s not quite a basketball court yet.
If you are like me, thinking they already had basketball courts, you’re correct, but the courts were recently replaced with pickleball courts. If you are still like me and didn’t know what pickleball is, it’s a paddle sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, and was invented during a family weekend in 1965, according to usapickleball.com.
The City of Benton approved several renovations to different parks, including Sunset Lake, Lyle Park, Holland Park, and at Tyndall Park, that included the following:
Splash Pad Expansion; West Side Parking Upgrades; Inclusive Field F5; Pickleball Courts; Basketball Courts; Renovate at Field F3 & F4; Concession Stand Renovations; Musco Lights at Field F1-F5; Scoreboards at Field F1-F5. Find more about those projects in the links below.
