Learn about the total solar eclipse coming in 2024 – the when, where, and how – from an “Astronomical” source. To see a total solar eclipse in Arkansas is rare. For many Arkansans, the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024, will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This event titled “Totality,” will be held on Thursday, April 6th. It will give attendees information about what a total solar eclipse is, what Arkansans can expect to see, where the path of totality will be, and how to safely view the eclipse. Avid and knowledgeable eclipse enthusiasts from the Central Arkansas Astronomical Society (CAAS) will be presenting.
The Saline County Library will host a presentation on the upcoming 2024 solar eclipse. This event will take place at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton, at 6:00 p.m. The address is 1800 Smithers Drive. This event kicks off a series of eclipse-related activities and events planned over the next 12 months at SCL to increase community awareness of and knowledge about the 2024 eclipse.
This is limited to 40 seats. Registration is strongly encouraged. Participants can register by visiting www.SalineCountyLibrary.org/calendar. Event participants are encouraged to bring donations of single-serving foods and toiletries for the Saline County Library community pantry.
The Central Arkansas Astronomical Society is a member-owned, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting amateur astronomy and recreational sky watching in central Arkansas, as well as bringing the reality of the universe closer to the public. They are affiliated with NASA’s Night Sky Network, is a member of the Astronomical League and the International Dark-Sky Association. The society owns and operates the River Ridge Observatory, located north of Lake Maumelle near Little Italy.
