There’s a brand new food truck serving central Arkansas, but you might recognize the taste of some of the menu items. The partners describe it as “Tex-Mex favorites with a trippy twist.” Partners Freddy Poe and Todd Cotten got the idea for this food truck out of necessity of finding work during the pandemic, and also out of a love for a popular Mexican restaurant called El Chico that served Little Rock for years.
Todd was one of the longest-employed people at El Chico, but the beloved decades-old restaurant closed their doors in March. At the same time, Freddy was laid off from his job in transportation and eventually let go altogether. The two got together and devised a plan to get themselves back to work, but also to bring delicious tacos, tamales and great salsa and cheese dips back to the people who loved El Chico liked they did.
They found a food truck and came up with a name, and they have been working on getting equipment and licensing. It’s all taken a while, but now they are able to announce Trippy Hippy Tacos is ready to come to businesses or events, and you can follow their Facebook page to see where to find them next for tamales, quesadillas, nachos, tacos and more.
