On Monday, August 3rd, 2015, officers with the Benton Police Department took a report of a theft from the Angie Grant Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Officers were informed that during an audit of the PTO account it was found that numerous unapproved charges had been made.
Detectives were then assigned to the case and a suspect was identified as Amanda Tiner, age 30, of Mabelvale, who was the PTO treasurer. During the course of their investigation it was determined that over $9,000 was missing and unaccounted for in the PTO account. Based on information and evidence gathered during the investigation, Tiner was subsequently arrested in relation to the case.
Tiner was charged with Theft of Property (C Felony) and detained at the Saline County Detention Facility for processing. Tiner was later released on a $5,000 signature bond.
Benton Superintendent Jeff Collum, said, “We applaud the efforts of our local Benton Police Department, the Benton School District administration team, and the Angie Grant administration team. Together, the teams acted immediately and professionally to resolve this $9,000 theft crime. After performing a thorough audit of the PTO accounts and discovering the funds were missing, the case was immediately handed over to local law enforcement for their investigation. They did their job and they did it well! We are sincerely appreciative that the issue has been resolved and we hope the courts will see it appropriate to mandate complete restitution.”
