Book: Finlay Donovan is Killing It
Author: Elle Cosimano
My Rating: 5 Killer Stars
This was the most fun I’ve had reading a book in a while, y’all. Several people recommended it to me because of my love for true crime…but this is NOT a true crime novel. It is one of the cleverest plots I’ve read in a long time.
Finlay Donovan’s life is a train wreck. Her husband cheated on her with their real estate agent, divorced her, then moved into the real estate agent’s town house just down the block. This left Finlay with two children, a pile of bills, and a massive case of writer’s block – which is a problem since Finlay writes romantic thrillers for a living. So when a stranger mistakes Finlay’s meeting with her agent for something more sinister, she finds herself in the middle of a plot more wild than any novel. Will Finlay Donovan become a “hitmom” and solve all of her financial problems and her writer’s block all at the same time?
Y’all, this was a delightfully dark and hilarious story. The entire plot was fantastic. As a true crime fan AND a bookworm, reading about how an author’s search history could be incriminating evidence was too fun. All the twists and turns kept me guessing until the very end. I read this one as an audiobook, and it was a great performance by the narrator. My only complaint was that I wanted to know the ending so badly, I was listening at 2X speed by the end!
If you’re looking for a funny and original mystery, this is your book! I’ll warn you now that there is some language and murder, so if that’s not your thing steer clear. But I thought this was a five star read and entertaining from start to finish!
