Book: Loving a Lady
Author: Nichole Van
My Rating: 5 broody stars
Aaaaghhhhghhghh!!!!! You guys. I’ve been waiting for this book since February! This is the third book in the Brotherhood of the Black Tartan series. It follows Ewan, the broody and gorgeous, tortured artist. I will tell you, as soon as I read about Ewan in Suffering the Scot, I was ready for his book. And Nichole did NOT let me down. (To be honest she never has!)
I’ve probably said this in every review, but Nichole Van knows her way around a meet cute. The first meeting between Ewan and Violet is fraught with tension. It’s not the sweet and funny meet cutes of the first two books, and it sets the tone for this one. Loving a Lady has a much more serious feel, but it is still SO GOOD. And we have cameos from some of our favs, that are actually pretty hilarious.
Ewan wants to become a great artist, and the perfect opportunity comes along when Sir Joshua – a famous artist – hires Ewan as his assistant. While the other members of the brotherhood continue investigating any possible survivors of the shipwreck that changed all of their lives, Ewan travels to Sir Joshua’s estate. Except when he gets there it’s not Sir Joshua’s estate, it’s Lady Kildrum’s estate. And an even bigger shock, he’s met Lady Kildrum before. They’re instantly drawn to each other, and the tension is EVERYTHING, y’all. SO. MUCH. TENSION. How can a Countess fall in love with a penniless artist?
There’s been a bit of a mystery brewing since book one, and it gets completely flipped on its head about halfway through this book. I mean, I dropped the book. I sent some all caps texts in the completely wrong group message because I was so frazzled. I yelled at my sister for not reading it yet so I couldn’t tell her about it. I even sent Nichole a message telling her that her plot twist was ILLEGAL. So if you read the series, buckle up when you get to this one. It will make you rethink everything you’ve read so far.
I highly recommend this entire series. It’s delightful. And this book was such a surprise with its shift in tone, and one of the greatest plot twists of all time. It was worth the wait!!
