Teresa Dannaway has announced she will be a Democratic candidate for State Representative in District 83. This district includes portions of Benton, Bryant, and Hot Springs Village.
Teresa was born and raised in Arkansas. She graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where she met her husband, Steve. She worked full-time in the Records and Registration Office at UALR until she became pregnant with their first child, Tyler. Tyler was born in February 2009, and she became a stay-at-home mom.
When Tyler was two and a half years old, he was diagnosed with autism. From that point on, Teresa became his advocate and grew into helping local autism families and creating a local autism support group called Autism Connections. She also worked part-time as a Family Care Navigator at the Dennis Developmental Center at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where she was able to help newly diagnosed families get the resources they needed.
In 2018, tragedy hit her family when their son, Tyler, suddenly passed away from flu complications. To help keep Tyler’s legacy alive (he loved helping others), Steve and Teresa established a non-profit organization called the Tyler Dannaway Foundation where she is the Executive Director.
In May 2023, Teresa graduated from the Arkansas Alliance for Disability Advocacy’s Partners in Policymaking Program. This program has helped her become a better advocate for the disability community and made her more interested in politics. She is also on the Arkansas Alliance for Disability Advocacy’s 2023-2024 Advocacy Advisory Council.
She wants to make Arkansas a better place to live for everyone! She feels we need to improve our public education system (specifically the LEARNS Act), have more access to mental health, and improve equality and inclusion for those with disabilities.
