Benton area residents calling U.S. Senator John Boozman’s (R-AR) Washington office in July may have heard a familiar voice on the other end of the line.
Sarah Spakes, a 2019 graduate of Benton High School, participated in Boozman’s Congressional Internship Program.
While in Washington, Spakes attended committee hearings, provided constituent services and assisted staff with various legislative and communications-related projects. As an intern, Spakes also had the opportunity to listen to many influential Arkansans as part of the office’s guest speaker series and spent a day shadowing the senator to get a first-hand look into the daily work of an elected official
“Working in Senator Boozman’s office has been an amazing experience. I have learned so much about legislating and the innerworkings of a personal congressional office that you can only learn on Capitol Hill. I am so grateful for this opportunity, for everything I’ve learned and everyone I’ve met,” Spakes said.
“Having Sarah in the office this summer was a pleasure. She gained new skills and valuable experience that will surely help her in her future. I wish her well and appreciate her dedication and diligence in the services she provided to the citizens of Arkansas,” Boozman said.
In May 2023, Spakes will graduate from Ouachita Baptist University with a bachelor of arts in political science and public history. She is the daughter of Scott and Melinda Spakes.
