According to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), early Friday morning, Environmental Officer Jack Campbell was dispatched to an area with an animal problem on Highway 5, just outside of the Benton city limits.
An owl was struck by a vehicle, found to be deceased and lying just off the roadway. When Deputy Campbell got closer, he found a second owl. Each time Deputy Campbell got close to the deceased owl, the live owl would open his wings as if he was protecting his mate.
Deputy Campbell was eventually able to safely capture the live owl. Officers from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission responded and it was determined that the live owl did not appear to be suffering from any type of injury.
Deputy Jack Campbell transported the owl to Lake Winona. The owl was released into the wild, appeared to healthy and flew without any difficulty.
