Police departments across Arkansas have launched a widespread crackdown on drunk driving as part of a national campaign to reduce traffic fatalities. Starting Friday, November 4th, the Saline County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) will be stepping up traffic patrols and DWI checkpoints.
This is part of a Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP) aimed at reducing accidents by robustly enforcing:
- speed violations;
- seat-belt violations and;
- drivers who are operating motor vehicles while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
SCSO Lieutenant Jeffrey Silk warned citizens to, “drive sober or risk getting pulled over.” Lt. Silk further stated, “Through Labor Day 2017, the SCSO will be increasing their presence on county roads with the aid of a $40,000 STEP grant to help pay for overtime.
“We’re giving Saline County drivers a clear warning. Make a commitment now, while you’re sober, to avoid getting behind the wheel if you’re impaired. It’s simply not worth the risk,” stated Sheriff Rodney Wright.
