Our local library got a big award recently after hosting an emergency preparedness night at each of their three branches.
The Saline County Library received the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management Individual and Community Preparedness Award at the Arkansas Emergency Management Conference in Hot Springs on Thursday August 29th, 2019.
The Saline County Library was a strong partner to the Saline County Office of Emergency Management in developing and hosting the “Family Prep Night” series to ensure that the citizens and families of Saline County are prepared. This program was created to provide the community the opportunity to learn more about severe weather preparedness and to build basic disaster supply kits for the home. The Saline County Library worked diligently to make this program a success and to make it available at all three branches of the library system including Benton, Bryant and Hot Springs Village benefiting citizens across the county.
This family night out style program took a simple severe weather preparedness presentation and created an event that would make a difference in how the families of our community ready themselves for an emergency. This program brought in a large age range, making it truly beneficial to all in our community. At the end of the program, every family was able to build their very own basic emergency supply kit. Because of the Saline County Library and their efforts in hosting this program, citizens all across Saline County are now better prepared and more interested than ever in a preparedness culture.
