The Saline County Library has planned a list of holiday events for December 2023. Unless noted otherwise, find the following events at either the Benton branch at 1800 Smithers Drive, or the Bryant branch at 201 Prickett Road.
THE LIST:
Tue, Dec 5 – Santa at Bryant Library
Santa will visit the Bryant branch from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Patrons of all ages are invited to come out and have their picture taken with him. Attendees can also enjoy hot cocoa and a performance by the Saline Symphony Orchestra.
Thu, Dec 7 – Santa at Benton Library
Santa will visit the Benton branch from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Patrons of all ages are invited to have their picture taken with Santa on the lower level. Attendees can also enjoy hot cocoa and a performance by the Benton High School Chamber Choir.
Sat, Dec 9 – Wreath making at Downtown Benton Farmers Market
Wreath Making will take place at the Benton Farmer’s Market from 4:00 – 6:00 PM. During this event, attendees will learn how to make their own wire form ribbon wreath, just in time for the holidays. The instructor will share simple tips and tricks for making wreaths pop without breaking the bank. Materials will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own ribbon or additional materials. This event is for ages 18 and older. Registration is required. The Benton Farmer’s Market is located at 117 Ashley, Benton, AR 72015.

Dec 11 – 15 – Holiday Spirit Week at Benton & Bryant branches if Library
Both branches of the library will participate in Holiday Spirit Week. Patrons and staff members are encouraged to dress in attire that matches the theme for each day. On Media Monday, participants are encouraged to wear an outfit based on their favorite holiday movie, book, song, or television show. Tuesday is Winter’s Long Nap. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite sleeping attire. Please dress appropriately. Wednesday is Grinch Day. Participants are encouraged to dress in green from head to toe. Thursday is Holiday Hat and Sock Day. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite holiday hats and socks, regardless of if they match. Friday is Ugly Holiday Sweater Day. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite holiday sweater.
Thu, Dec 14 – Teen Holiday Party in Benton
The Benton branch will host a Teen Holiday Party from 4:00 – 5:00 PM in the Meeting Room. Ages 13-18 are encouraged to attend this event, regardless of which holidays they celebrate. The party will feature games, prizes, cookies, and more.
Thu, Dec 14 – Wreath Revamp at Benton
The Benton branch will host Wreath Revamp from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Meeting Room. During this event, attendees will learn how to revitalize their old garland wreaths with just a few accessories, lights, and a hot glue gun. All materials will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own materials. This event is for ages 18 and older and requires registration.
Fri, Dec 15 – DIY Ugly Sweaters in Benton
The Benton branch will host a DIY Ugly Sweater Drop-in Event from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in the Meeting Room. Patrons are invited to bring a plain shirt or sweater to decorate for the holidays. Glue and decorative materials will be provided. No hands-on instruction will be provided, but a staff member will be supervising. This drop-in event is open to all ages.
Mon, Dec 18 – Gingerbread Storytime in Bryant
The Bryant branch will host a Gingerbread Storytime from 10:30 – 11:00 AM. Attendees will hear the story of the Gingerbread Boy. After the story, attendees will complete a craft together, followed by a library scavenger hunt to find the aforementioned Gingerbread Boy. This event is for ages 6 and under.
Tue, Dec 19 – Holiday Movie Trivia in Benton
SCL Trivia will be at Lost Pizza Co. in Benton from 7:30 – 8:00 PM. During this event, the host will ask 40 trivia questions about popular holiday movies. The person or team who answers the most questions correctly will go home with bragging rights and a prize. Lost Pizza Co. is located at 510 AR-5, Benton, AR 72019.
Thu, Dec 21 – Holiday Storytime in Benton
The library is hosting Holiday Storytime at the Farmer’s Market. Ms. Dana will read a holiday story to all attendees. During this event, the results of the Food and Hygiene Item Drive will be announced, and the “winning” librarian will be pied in the face. This storytime will take place at the Benton Farmer’s Market from 10:30 – 11:30 AM and is geared towards ages 6 and under.
Sat, Dec 30 – Noon Year’s Eve Storytime in Benton
The Benton branch will host Noon Year’s Eve Storytime from 11:30 AM – 12:15 PM. This special storytime will include the Youth Services librarians’ favorite books from 2023, songs, and a craft. There will be a countdown leading up to noon, followed by a dance party. This storytime is for ages 5 and under.
