NUMBERS, DUPLICATES,
“US” & THE FEEDBACK
VOTING NUMBERS
We had over 5,000 voters in around 300 categories. It was a challenge for us to count. There was one tie. There were several categories with contenders that were separated by under 10 votes. One was separated by 1 vote. And we were so torn!
But we persevered to make the count as fair as possible. If you were nominated at all, then you are doing something that someone out there loves. If you made it to the finalist list, then even moreso!
THE GIFT CARD
Right in the middle of the survey, there was a woopsie. We duplicated a category, so early voters saw two of the same thing in a row. We found it early in the voting process and changed it to a giveaway. ?
So if you found that category, and if you voted in that category, (yes even if you voted before we changed it to a giveaway) you were entered to possibly win a $25 gift card to Walmart. The winner was posted on our Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/mysaline.
DUPLICATE VOTES
Some of you voted more than once, and that’s totally okay for those of you who needed to stop somewhere in the middle, and came back to vote more later. We were still able to count your answers.
On the other hand, some of you may have “accidentally” voted more than once (or 5 times) under the same email address. We did delete the duplicate votes if they were under the same email address. However, if you voted for a different choice in a later session, we kept the most recent vote.
VOTES FOR “US”
We know there was an unfair advantage. We understand that this survey was on our MySaline website, and that it’s owned by Shelli Poole, and so therefore, MySaline and Shelli were the natural choices as you voted. We very much appreciate getting so many of your votes in 5 categories!
But also, it doesn’t seem right to us to present awards to ourselves. Our goal is to highlight others in the community. So, to be fair and not creepy, we…
- Kept your nominations so we could show them accurately,
- Took MySaline and Shelli out of the final results because of the unfair advantage.
YOUR COMMENTS
This may be the best part of the survey. The very last question asked voters to suggest any changes for Saline County Favorites for next year. Like last year when we asked, there were some good suggestions, and there were some who thought the survey was just fine like it is.
There were some who wanted more categories, but others who thought the survey was too long. There were some who suggested things we already did, but I guess they didn’t notice it. We published comments below, along with our answer to the comments. Some of these comments came from one person, others were multiple comments that we combined for brevity. We took out the names and paraphrased the comments some, but we loved every word!
Comments (these are paraphrased and each listing represents one or several comments) | MySaline & Shelli’s public reply to the comments |
Add a category for business owners. | We had 3 categories for business professionals. |
Add restaurants you want in the area. | We did have a “what does Saline County need but doesn’t have” category. |
Please include X category that only 0.5% of the population will vote in. | (Woops, Perhaps I paraphrased too much in that response.) |
Please include X category that’s already in there but I didn’t notice. | Ok! We absolutely will consider already having done that. |
Don’t show bias by only including Republican elected officials. | That’s the only kind we have right now. |
I saw a lot of businesses that I had never heard of and want to check out. | We also love that this survey highlights new businesses as well as popular ones. |
Why did you include yourself as a finalist? | The community nominated for MySaline and Shelli. |
Add pictures to the people and places that were finalists. | Interesting idea. |
There should be more choices from X town. | We had a nomination process that we promoted for a week. |
Don’t do categories with only one nomination. | We don’t know how many people the community will nominate. One choice is clearly the favorite if it’s the only one nominated, so it’s worthy to highlight them as a finalist. |
Don’t do elected officials categories. We already vote for them. | You may have a point. |
I didn’t know what to vote on some, so I picked the first person and that’s not fair. | You don’t have to vote in every category. |
Don’t host it on the MySaline website, because it doesn’t go to the next page correctly. | Because the survey doesn’t display correctly on some devices, we did provide a link in the article to go directly to the survey source. |
Change nothing. I like it as it is. | Thanks! |
I want to vote for more than one in each category. | Everyone can’t be in 1st place. |
The survey had too many categories. | We might change that, but went with the community’s suggestions. |
Divide X category into more categories. | If choices are lumped into a category, it’s because it’s a small category. |
I want to write in answers. | We had a nomination process that we promoted for a week. |
Don’t just add people who pay to sponsor. | We only allow advertisements after people have been voted to the finals. |
The survey took too long. | You don’t have to vote in every category. |
Why didn’t you list X as a finalist? | Because they were not in the top nominees. |
