Well, actually, 78 and a half years. On this historic day, Saline County voters have turned in 21,325 for a wet county (54.22%) and 18,003 against a wet county (45.78%). Saline County went dry after a Special Election in February 1936. In October 1935, six local ministers gathered at First Baptist Church and decided to have a public meeting with the public to try to get it to a vote. The rules about getting something on a ballot must have been very different then, because it only took four months to get the vote and change the law.
