Salem Water Users announced there was a water main break on the corner of Salem Road and Helmich Road. This was around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday. Technicians were still working on the leak during the late morning. Water should be restored to customers soon, if not already.
This activity may trigger a boil notice, but we don’t have that information yet. It’s best to operate as if there is one in place. That would mean taking the following precautions:
WHAT TO DO WHEN THIS HAPPENS
Under the ‘Boil Water’ Notice, all affected customers are advised that the water may be unsafe for human consumption, and water used for drinking or food preparation must be boiled briskly for one (1) minute prior to use. All ice cubes should be discarded and only boiled water used for making ice.
HOW LONG
This Notice will is lifted by the Department of Health when 1 set of 3 bacteriological samples indicate that the water is free of bacterial contamination and an adequate disinfectant level is established throughout the distribution system.
