Sharon Denise Dowdle, 54 of Bauxite, went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2016. She was born August 24, 1962 in Little Rock to Lowell and Joyce Elrod. Sharon was talented at many things, especially cake decorating. She enjoyed shopping and going to the race track. Sharon loved her family and was a proud wife, mother, grandmother and daughter, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her father. Mary Willene Brown Deaton, 90, of Benton, AR, died Sunday evening, November 20, 2016 in Fayetteville, AR. Willene was born September 20, 1926 to John H. and Burlie Catherine Brown of Bryant, AR. She was the seventh of eight children born into a loving, happy family. She graduated from Bryant High School. After marrying Vander J. Deaton of Benton, they lived shortly in Malvern and then settled in the Salem Community where they resided until 1967. Two children followed: John and Melissa. Willene was determined to go to college and become a teacher. After years of hard work, she graduated from Little Rock University now University of Arkansas at Little Rock. They moved to Portland, TX in 1967. Willene taught 2nd and 1st grades until she retired. She loved children and had a passion for education. She often said she looked forward to going to school every day. Her favorite thing was teaching children to read. Upon retirement Willene and V.J. moved back to the Salem community where they enjoyed many happy years. They were long time members of the Salem United Methodist Church. Willene is preceded in death by her husband Vander J. Deaton, her parents, John H. and Burlie Catherine Brown; brothers and sisters, Hiram Brown, Violette Johnson, Edna McMoran, John Wesley Brown, Doris Weise, Dorothy Williams; and great grandson, Colin Joseph Zeitler. She is survived by her brother, Harold Brown and wife, Doris, of Warren, AR; her children, John Deaton and wife Janice of Gravette, AR and Melissa Matte and husband Rod of College Station, TX. They have five grandchildren, Wendy Zeitler and husband, Ryan; Stephanie Deaton McLeod; Meghan Gregory and husband, Lucas; Pamela Roberson and husband, Nathan; and Justin Deaton. They have ten great grandchildren, Clayton, Eli, Aaron, and Brett Zeitler; Elizabeth, Lane, and Hannah Gregory; and Payton, Nolan, and Vance Roberson. Betty retired from the Alexander Youth Services Center after 31 years and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Marion Hughes and Hazel Beatrice Cash Hughes. Gary worked several years for Alcoa, Reynolds and numerous construction projects. Gary loved working on cars and never met a stranger. He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. Marjorie E. Clark, age 75, of Haskell, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side and supported by her brother-in-law, Jamie George and his entire family on Saturday, December 3, 2016. She was born January 17, 1941 in Bearden, Arkansas. Mrs. Clark was a retired L.P.T.N. and attended the Bible Missionary Church. She loved playing games, working crossword puzzles and reading. Felix Childress, age 77, of Bauxite, passed from this life and entered into rest on Sunday, December 4, 2016. He was born to Miller and Stella Brown Childress on August 25, 1939. Felix was predeceased by his parents; brother and his wife, Arlander & Leota Childress; sister and her husband, Dorothy Mae & Grady Brown and a son-in-law, Larry Oswalt. Felix is remembered as a very pleasant gentleman who was a kind and gentle man. The greatest desire of his life was to strive toward being a Godly Christian man. He was thankful to get retirement from Reynolds Metals Company, retiring as a multi-craft employee. Felix always felt the challenge of “fixin” anything that was broken. He enjoyed helping friends, family and neighbors with that talented ability, often behind the scenes with no desire of recognition. Ava Jane Stevens, born on February 18, 1940 in Little Rock, AR, passed away on December 5, 2016. Ava spent her childhood in Tull and Benton. She graduated from Benton High School and, as a teenager, worked in downtown Benton at her father’s Courthouse Cafe. After rearing five children, she graduated from UALR earning a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and later a master’s degree in gerontology. Although she had a love for primitive American antiques and painting, her life’s main focus was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ava’s family will miss her terribly. She is predeceased by her parents, Clyde Lee Snodgrass and Maurice Ethel Burrow, and her sister, Clydean Benedict. She is survived by her five children, Tracie Schmidt, Leslie Travis, Craig Stevens, Teresa Stevens, and Courtney Butler; her siblings ….. E. Margaret Jefferson, age 91, of Benton, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016. She was born March 6, 1925 in Bellevue, Texas. Mrs. Jefferson retired from the Union Bank as the Vice President. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Benton and Longhills Golf, Inc. Mrs. Jefferson was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Loma Mae Wetsel; husband, William Ross Jefferson; son, Gregory Ross Jefferson and two brothers, Tommy and J. B. Wetsel. Willie Oscar Frazier (“Junior”), age 91, of Haskell, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 11, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born August 26, 1925 in Bauxite, Arkansas to Audie and Willie Oscar Frazier. The week after his 18th birthday he was drafted in the U.S Navy and served on the U.S.S. Gregory during War World II, participating in many conflicts in the Pacific and personally witnessing the raising of the U.S flag at Iwo Jima. Following WWII, he took a one month vacation before going to work for Reynolds Metals, where he spent 30 years. During his time at Reynolds, he received 2 technical degrees in mechanical engineering under the G.I Bill. He retired from Reynolds in 1977 and started Frazier Heating and Air, which he owned and operated for another 30 years. He only advertised one time as he quickly established a reputation for reliable service at a fair price. His strong character, genuine kindness and love for all people made him the one to call any time of day or night. Although Willie was raised in the depression, he always felt “wealthy” because of his loving Christian family. He lived by those unselfish, Christian family values every day of his 91 years and was a true role model for his family and close friends. Willie had a deep love of God, Country, and Family. He was a member of Central Arkansas Church of Christ, read his Bible daily and attended church regularly until the last week of his life. He worked every day to live a Christian life and lead by example to four generations of his beloved family. He was deeply devoted to his wife of 34 years, Alice Lanelle Frazier; children: Sheila Powell, Paul, Glen, Mark, and Willie Russell “Russ” Frazier, Sheryl Permenter, Lisa Nabholz, Lorey Phillips, Joey Moody, and Dawn Bailey. He was proceeded in death by his sisters, Lena Bragg, Edna “Polie” Henthorne, daughter Robin Moody, and grandsons Jeremy Frazier and Lawson Phillips. Lottie Katherine Marshall, age 91, of Alexander; passed away Monday, December 12, 2016. She was born July 23, 1925 in Warren, Arkansas. Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Maggie Thompson; husband, John Marshall; son, Glen Marshall and brothers, Rex and Orland Thompson. She is survived by two daughters, Deanna Johnson (Russell) of Alexander and Johnnie K. Odis Allan Bush, age 82, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016. Odis, the youngest child of the late Richard and Pearl Bush, was born February 6, 1934, in Sedan, New Mexico. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Odis is survived by his wife, Nancy Marilyn Bush and daughter Mary Lynnette Jones (Gale Smith) of HSV, sons Allan Bush (Martha) of De Queen, and Erwin Bush (Vicki) of Barling, grandchildren Jason Bush (Bekki) of De Queen, Ryan Bush (Tiffany) of Barling, Lanye Bush of Fayetteville, Tory Bush of Van Buren, Jennifer Burroughs of Jacksonville and Ethan Brocato of Hot Springs, Kim Cole of HSV and Tim Smith of Little Rock. Louis Edward Meyers, age 76, died at home December 1, 2016, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. He was born September 22, 1940 in Fostoria, Ohio, to Leona Evelyn Pratt Meyers and William Edward Meyers. He and his wife Maralynn Troutman married November 7, 1987, in Little Rock, AR. Mr. Meyers graduated Fostoria High School, and in 1958 joined the U.S. Airforce. After retiring he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Bellevue College in Nebraska and his Master’s Degree in counseling at the University of Oklahoma. He is a 22 year U.S. Airforce veteran who was stationed for 7 years in Vietnam. He earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses and was nominated for a third in addition to Medal of Valor and innumerable Air Medals. Mr. Meyers is survived by his wife of 29 years Maralynn Meyers of Hot Springs Village, Son, Cory Meyers; daughters Tracy Mangrum, Terri Hurt, and Tawni Meyers; and cousins Irene Fletcher, Findlay, Ohio, and Patricia Babb, Fostoria, Ohio; and best friend Howard Laney, Fostoria, Ohio. John Thomas Templeton, age 81, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016, at his home in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, surrounded by his sister, Katie Glenn, and his brother-in-law, Gary Glenn. Tom was the second oldest of five children. He was born to the union of Pauline and Robert Templeton on July 22, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and Robert Templeton, two sisters, Jean and Connie, and his youngest brother Steven. Tom leaves to cherish his memory, a brother Larry Templeton of Fullerton, California, a sister Katie Glenn of Camarillo, California and a host of relatives and friends. Tom was actively involved in the Los Posas Country Club in Camarillo, California and served two terms as Membership Chairman. Tom loved the game of golf and spent many hours on the club course with his friends. Tom was also active in Civic affairs and served as President of the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Supervisors of Ventura County. Tom’s work career spanned 37 years at General Telephone California, beginning as a line man in Bellflower, California and retiring as Regional Director Customer Contact Service, Thousand Oakes, California. After retirement, Tom moved to grapevine, Texas and worked three years as a consultant for GTE. He discovered Hot Springs Village on a weekend golf invitation from Cooper Corporation. After several return trips to the Village, he purchased a home on Coronado Golf Course and remained in the Village for twenty years until his death. Tom, with his wonderful smile and great sense of humor, could light up any room and entertain everyone present. He was a unique and gifted man filled with life and love. He most of all, wanted his family and friends to remember him in his happier, healthier times of his life. As he requested, his ashes will be given to his sister and scattered, privately and quietly, at a special place .
Sharon L. Diemer 62, of Benton passed away November 15, 2016. She was born September 23, 1954 to Jessie Thornberry and Lois Beasley Thornberry in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sharon loved going to the lake, camping, cooking out and spending time with her family. She loved shopping and was an outgoing person and enjoyed life. On Tuesday, November 22nd, God called home His good and faithful servant, Charles Wiley Reeve, at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 71 years. Janie Lee Jeffcoat (62) of Benton went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2016. She was born in Benton, AR on July 23, 1954. Janie had a sweet personality, a tender heart, and a gentle, kind spirit. Mark Adrian Thompson, sixty six of Benton, passed away December 8, 2016. He was born May 21, 1948 to Clifford B. Thompson and Virginia Ruth Brindley Thompson in Los Angeles, California. He was a great guitarist, loved music, photography, and bird watching. He was employed with Everett GMC for six years (since it opened). He was a Jehovah’s Witness in faith. Dixie Lee (Daugherty) Seibel, age 65, died Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Arkansas. She was born on January 22, 1951 in Wellington, Kansas, the daughter of Jess and Glenda Daugherty. She was a graduate of Wellington High School, Wellington, Kansas and a graduate of Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas with a double major of music and elementary education. She later earned her Master’s degree in Library Science at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Her senior year at Southwestern College, she was a member of the school’s USO troop that toured the South Pacific entertaining the US troops stationed there. She played the piano and had parts in the troop’s musical, “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”. On April 22, 1973, she married Daryl Lee Seibel at the Christian Church in Wellington, Kansas. She began work as an elementary music teacher at Riley, Kansas and later after their son was grown, she established a career as Document Controller with Kraft Foods where she retired two years ago. Survivors include her husband, Daryl, of Benton, Arkansas, along with her son, Micah and his wife, Adrienne and their son, Liam of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Gary Daugherty and his wife, Edna of Welch, Oklahoma. Ruby J. Rea, 89 of Benton, passed away December 12, 2016. She was born December 27, 1926 to Jessie James Garner and Ophelia Garner in Amity, Arkansas. William (Bill) Howard Lakin, 82, of Mabelvale, Ark. passed away November 18, 2016. He was born December 20, 1933 in Booneville, AR to the late Howard Roe and Lucinda Strickland Lakin. After graduating Mabelvale High School in 1952, Bill served in the U.S. Air Force with a tour of duty in Morocco as a cryptographer. As a young man, he enjoyed all sports and loved teaching those to his own children. Bill’s career included merchandising, owner of a vending enterprise and Tom Thumb Market, and eventually retired from City of Little Rock Parks and Recreation. His greatest joy and accomplishment was his family. Bill was a man of faith, love, joy, compassion, and generosity which was expressed to his family, friends, neighbors, church, and his community. Bill was a recent member of Lifeline Baptist Church and felt it was a privilege to visit local churches through the work of Gideon’s International in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the distribution of God’s Word. Bill experienced the life giving and life changing power of God’s Word through faith in Jesus Christ and prayed this for each of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his siblings, Virginia Lakin, Edward Lakin, and Maxene Sanders; his first wife, Emma Frances Smith Lakin; and his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Lee and Cheryl Lakin. Keaton Flynn Connell, infant son of Jason and Diana Connell of Benton, departed this life on November 14, 2016 at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. He was born on October 28, 2016. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Robin Connell of Benton; maternal grandparents, Debbie and Dennis Fletcher of Bryant; paternal grandparents, William J. and Beckye Connell of Lillian, AL; great grandmother, Becky Bergman of Sherwood, AR; and uncle and aunt, Seth and Robin Connell of Little Rock. Elizabeth Loyd Mitchell, age 35, of Benton, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 surrounded by her family at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. She was born in Conway on May 5, 1981. She graduated from Benton High School in 1999 with summa cum laude honors. She a member of the 2003 graduating class at Harding University, where she obtained a degree in music and a member of the 2011 UAMS graduating class, where she obtained her RN license. Her love of children led her to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital NICU department, where she was currently employed. She was an active and loved member of Northside Church of Christ in Benton. In addition to playing the oboe with the Little Rock Wind Symphony, Liz was an avid swimmer and enjoyed running. She loved to garden and had a gift for painting, taking on projects throughout the home, and enjoyed cooking. She played many roles in the lives of those she touched, especially her husband of over thirteen years, Jimmy and their three precious girls. Liz gave selflessly of herself to everyone she touched. She did so to the very end through giving life to countless individuals as an organ donor. She was preceded in death by her father, William Howard Loyd and father-in-law, Jimmy Frank Mitchell. Survivors include, her husband Jimmy Mitchell of Benton; three daughters, Jenniva, Charis, and Scarlett Mitchell of Benton; her mother Mary Hineline Loyd Palmer and husband Tom of Conway; her siblings, Kathryn Loyd Wilson and husband Brett of Little Rock and Christopher Loyd and wife Rebecca of Rowlett, Texas; one step-brother, Anthony David Palmer of Conway; three nephews, Jacob Foster Loyd, Kameron Allan Plank, and Brenden Lee Plank; one niece, Willamina Kathryn Wilson; her mother-in-law, Carol Jean Mitchell; one sister-in-law, Misti Lee Mitchell and husband Jamal Taha; several aunts and uncles; other relatives, and many friends. She was born in Bauxite on March 15, 1936 to the late Samuel D. and Annie Lois Jones Lattin. She was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Bryant and a retired CNA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Blake and one grandson, Tylor Wright. Mr. Bobby Dale Maxey, 89 of Benton, passed away December 10, 2016 at his home. He was born August 3, 1927 in Herrin, IL to the late Loy and Alice (Bush) Maxey. He was a member of Agape Church. He worked in the prison ministry with the Gideons. He lived his life for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a retired factory machinery supervisor for Siemens-Allis. Rheba Lee PoolShelnutt, age 94, of Benton, Arkansas, passed away on December 11, 2016 In Bryant, Arkansas. Rheba was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 18,1922. She married Joe Charles Shelnutt in Lonoke on December 3,1938. She graduated from Little Rock High School in 1939 and later attended Little Rock University(UALR). She owned and operated a grocery store out of their home for several years in the 1940’s and 1950’s. She and her husband served as missionaries in Mexico and served as a pastor’s wife at Lee Chapel Baptist Church in Pearcy and East Side Baptist Church in Benton. She was an incredible Bible teacher and church pianist. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Benton, Arkansas. She led a Bible study with her friends for many years and was active in teaching it until four days before her death. Rheba was preceded in death by her parents, DeWitt Talmadge Pool and Minnie Leona Bettis Pool; her husband, Joe Charles Shelnutt Sr; her sister, Bonnie Jean Smith; her son, Joe Charles Shelnutt, Jr. and son in law, James W. The world lost a beautiful soul that was caring and passionate about life. Sheila R. Thacker (Scott) died November 22, 2016 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on August 5, 1968 in North Bend, Oregon to Ronnie and Phyllis Scott. The family moved home to Arkansas in 1973. Sheila graduated from Benton in 1986. Her “Mary Poppins” attitude toward life drove people crazy but carried her through many hard times, as well as, sharing with others during the good times. Her battle with cancer was brief but painful, however, she never lost her faith in God or her sense of humor; touching the hearts of all she met. Sheila is survived by her devoted husband, Ricky Thacker, who never left her side during this illness. Children, Robert Garner, Jr. (Amber and baby Garner) of Aurora, CO, Brook Rankin (Ariel) of Benton, Danny Bolliera of Bauxite, Timothy Thacker (Ivy) of South Carolina, LaCretia Padberry (Cody) of Alabama, Heather Thacker of Washington, Ayla Spears (Josh) of Alabama. She naturally knew the importance of being a good wife, best friend and even business partner; she knew and understood the importance of being a mother that lead by example and did it the effortlessly, she was her three children’s hero because of her tender heart, willingness to always find the good in any situation and could challenge you to be the best you could be through her example, she was a warrior that was truly selfless in all ways, a true servants heart. Sybill will best be remembered by her ability to overcome any bad situations through her constant smile and inspiring attitude, both as a jokester and her kind loving heart. Harold Troy Corn, of Benton was born December 14, 1933 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to Lewis and Barbara Corn and a family of three brothers and two sisters. He passed away in Little Rock on December 2, 2016. Harold graduated from Little Rock Central High School before marrying his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, JoAn Simmons Corn, with whom he had a very blessed 63 years of marriage and raised a happy and loving family. Harold was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and served with the 33rd Infantry in St. Louis, MO and Panama City, Panama being honorably discharged. He then went to work as an installer and lineman for Western Electric (Lucent) where he had a 30 year career. After an early retirement Harold enjoyed many years delivering the Benton Courier to his rural Benton neighbors and homesteading on the 10 acres he and JoAn lived on in Saline County. Harold was a lifetime outdoorsman who could identify every kind of tree and enjoyed fishing and camping at Lake Ouachita with his siblings and their families. His other hobbies included gardening, woodworking and furniture making, often building pieces for his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching baseball and othe sports, and was a lifelong Razorback fan. Harold is survived by his wife JoAn, children Dana Jones (Brick) and family of Austin, TX, Kenny Corn and family of Benton, Carla Schwalbert (Mike) and family of Reading, MA, Karen Solomom (Marc) and family of San Antonio, TX, and one brother Arnold Corn, of Sherwood. Harold was blessed with twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. JoAn and the family want to express their gratitude for the compassionate care of Dr. Nancy Rector, Dr. Karen Pickett and ICU nurse Robin Ball. Mearmon Lester Morrow, 92, of Benton died on Tuesday December 6. 2016. He was born March 29, 1924 to the late Mack and Inez Morrow in Morrilton, Arkansas. Lester had served in the United States Army, he was a devoted husband and proud father and grandfather. Lester is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-five years Elnora Morrow. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of over 65 years, Lester Morrow; two sons, Randy Morrow and wife Judy and Kevin Morrow; daughter-in-law, Mary Morrow; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sisters; Betty Jewel Brown and husband Calvin of Benton, Arkansas. Oliver Perry Appling, Jr., 58, of Benton, Arkansas passed away December 10, 2016. He was born May 10, 1958 in Little Rock, Arkansas to O.P. and Elsie Appling, Sr. Perry was a 1976 graduate of Benton High School. He is the owner of Perry Appling Auction House. Perry loved rodeos and chuck wagon races. Perry leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Shari Thompson Appling of Benton, Arkansas; son, Robert Bodie Appling of Benton; parents, O.P.
