Our local scouts will be collecting food from neighborhoods, by leaving a sack at your door.
The Quapaw Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, will hold their annual Scouting For Food campaign this November, in cooperation with the Arkansas Food Bank and the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, .
Last year over 400 scouts and scouters collected over 12,000 pounds of food across 39 counties of Arkansas. All food that was collected was delivered and donated to food pantries in the communities, according to Marcal Young, Scout Executive/CEO.
“The sad fact is that too many of those young people today aren’t thinking about much more than whether there will be enough food to eat tonight,” stated Young. “We believe that is unacceptable and want to be a part of helping change that.”
Scouting For Food is a council-wide service project. It exemplifies the Scouting values of being loyal, helpful, kind and cheerful while raising awareness to the problem of food security among so many in our state.
On Saturday November 13th, hundreds of Scouts will begin distributing bags in surrounding neighborhoods to invite people to contribute to the Scouting for Food drive. The Scouts will return the following Saturday, November 20th, to pick up the bags and deliver food donations to their local food banks and pantries.
The Quapaw Area Council serves about 3,500 young people across 39 counties in Arkansas. This includes Saline County, which is in the Ouachita District. Find more info at www.quapawbsa.org.
