Advice regarding pre-paying your taxes is being passed around the country – but it’s illegal in Arkansas – according to Saline County Tax Collector, Joy Ballard, via a shared social media post from County Treasurer Debra Buckner in Pulaski County.
The Tax Reform Act recently passed involve state and local tax deductions. One piece of tax advice being offered around the country is to “pre-pay” your property taxes. Please be advised that you “cannot” do that in the state of Arkansas. Arkansas Code Annotated 26-36-201 states the collection of real and personal property taxes are due and payable between the first business day of March and October 15 inclusive. A.C.A. 26-35-501 states taxes are due and payable between the first business day in March and October 15 inclusive in the year succeeding the year in which the levy is made. Therefore Property taxes cannot be legally prepaid in anticipation of the next taxation cycle.
