According to Benton Fire Chief Bill Ford, the Department answered a call Wednesday morning about smoke at Planet Fitness on Military Road in Benton. He said the information that was relayed to him is that the power went out temporarily at gym and when it came back on, employees observed smoke and there was a haze in the building. The Fire Department advised them to evacuate the building. Ford says the manager of Planet Fitness thinks it may be confined to a rooftop air conditioner or a similar electrical source. I attempted to call Planet Fitness twice, but there was no answer, likely due to the electrical situation.

I’m hearing preliminary reports that Planet Fitness has been evacuated due to smoke in the building. Benton Fire and Rescue are at the scene. MySaline is waiting on permission to share a citizen video of it. We’ll update when we get more.
