I got a sneak preview of Pie Five Pizza today, but their first official day in business is Friday, October 30th, 2015. MySaline told you in August about Pie Five and that it was coming soon to Benton’s new shopping center Hurricane Creek Village (also TCBY is coming). Not long after, we saw a sign go up in the window, and then word went out for people to come apply for jobs.
My parents were along for this prestigious business meeting today, so you’ll see three pizzas in my pictures. I got the Margherita, Dad (Roger Poole) got the High Five and Mom (Thelma Poole) got her own mix of ingredients, including bacon and cheddar. The menu has ten or so options for pizza ideas they came up with, but you can also pick from lots and lots of ingredients to either customize their signature recipes or go crazy and start from scratch.
Some of you will want to know, and the answer is YES they do have gluten-free crust and they do take double care to prep it and serve it in such a way that it won’t be contaminated by the other flour, dough, crusts or crumbles. They also have a whole grain option.
Here’s how the restaurant works. It’s similar to a very popular sandwich shop which is named after a mode of transportation. You get in line and there is a bar full of ingredients and you just tell the nice restaurant folks what you want on your pizza. Then you move up in line and there is the option to get a salad. Those are cool too – they come in a bowl made of pizza crust. Next is the option for dessert. You can get a brownie or some similar thing. Then you decide on drinks with the folks at the register. They ring you up, give you cups and then you get to the last section of the big long bar, which is where your freshly baked pizza comes out and staff is there to slice it and add a finishing touch of “Magic Dust” among other things if you desire. Then you take your cup and pick from a few kinds of tea or tap out your soda flavor on the computer screen of the big machine.
So how did I feel about all this? I loved it. There was a little wait in line today, but that’s a given, since lots of folks were invited to try a free pizza today. I would guess normal wait to get through the line would be maybe a minute, and then the baking process is five minutes. I’m guessing that’s where the name come from – you think? When our pizzas came out, we each traded pieces so we could try everything. I was very happy with each kind. The two thin crust pizzas were evenly baked, crispy, cheesy and yummy. My dad’s thicker crust was crispy at the edge and the middle was soft but good and done.
Prices, service, wait time and pizza were all very good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for casual occasions, family dining and lunch. There aren’t many people who don’t like pizza, and you can get in and out of Pie Five with a quality product for under $10 including tax. The pizzas were $6.99 and drinks were $1.89. Not only that, but at the bottom of my receipt was a coupon for 10% off my next visit (excluding alcohol). Wait, what? Oh yeah, alcohol – they are seeking a permit to serve adult beverages too, so look for that in the near future.
