The Panthers capped off arguably the best golf season in school history on October 4th at Hurricane Country Club, winning the 5A golf state championship.
Benton defeated Lakeside, El Dorado, Little Rock Christian, Vilonia, Maumelle, Valley View, Searcy, Marion, Van Buren, Harrison, and Russellville. They absolutely smoked the competition, shooting a total of 298 while the next closest was Lakeside shooting 321 in total.
Leading the Panthers in scoring was freshman Paxton Lane with a 73. After that, sophomore Mason McDaniel shot a 74. Following him was sophomore Elias Payne shooting a 75. Next sophomore Mattox Davis shot a 76, and finally, Senior Eli Cowden shot an 83.
Out of the five Panther golfers, four of them received All-State honors: Paxton Lane, Elias Payne, Mason McDaniel, and Mattox Davis. Another bright note for the Panthers was that freshman Paxton Lane qualified to play in the statewide overall tournament after a five-hole playoff.
Overall this golf season has been one of the best golf seasons for the Panthers in a while, and the first time they have won State since 2009. The Panthers will look to continue their successes into next season.?️♂️
