John “Jab” Rowland, 72, of Benton, passed away on September 4, 2022.
Jab was born in Bauxite, Arkansas to John and Margie Rowland on November 9, 1949. He is a graduate of Bauxite High School where he excelled in football. He was a retired maintenance mechanic at Alcoa. Jab loved riding motorcycles and going on long rides to see the fall leaves. He was an amazing grandfather, and his grandsons meant the world to him.
Jab is preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Margie Spears-Rowland; siblings, Harold Dean Rowland, Ron Rowland and Linda Rowland-Sutton.
Jab is survived by his daughter Holly (Brett) Gateley, grandsons Kendal and Kane Gateley, brother Roger (Patti) Rowland, fiance and caregiver Minta James, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9th at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with a Funeral Mass following at 12:00. Service will be officiated by Father John Marconi.
James “Tater” Walker, loving husband and father, died on September 4, 2022, at Saline Memorial Hospital.
James was born on July 31, 1948, in Monticello, Arkansas to the union of Horace and Willie Mae Walker. He accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
James attended Drew High School, in Monticello, Arkansas graduating in 1966. James moved to Los Angeles and was employed with the City of Los Angeles in the Street Maintenance Department as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He retired from this job after 30 years in 2004. He then started a second career with Union Pacific Railroad and was employed with them for 4 ½ years.
During James life he coached youth baseball and was a boy scout leader. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and being with his family.
In June 1983, James was united in holy matrimony with Sandra, and they were married for 39 years.
James leaves to cherish his life and memories his wife Sandra, three children his daughter Katona Walker Carson, CA; sons Bryant Walker (Eve) Harbor City, CA; Michael Walker Stone Mountain, GA; one sister, Darlean Gross Milwaukee, WI; five grandchildren: Vinson Bluntson, ChrisAnthony Walker (Kayla), Brandi Walker, Steve Jenkins, and Christian Walker and a host of FAVORITE nieces and nephews, cousins, friends; his favorite pet and companion, Bo and people he met along his journey of life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Horace and Willie Mae Walker, two brothers, Horace Walker Jr. and Charles Walker, three sisters Mozelle Johnson, Willie Jean Walker, and Mary Ann Tate.
Rosary will be September 16, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton, Arkansas with visitation to follow at 6:30 p.m.
Services will be September 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Benton.
Interment of Cremains will be at a later date at New Rosemont Cemetery in Benton.
In lieu of flowers the family requests those who wish to express sympathy consider donating to the American Kidney Foundation or Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in James’ Walker name.
William Harold Mann, 79 of Benton, passed away on September 5, 2022. He was born on March 14, 1943 in Benton, Arkansas to the late William Homer and Julia Ann Keene Mann. Harold was an avid outdoors man. Fishing and Hunting and any excuse to organize a camp was his mission, fishing camp, hunting camp, with his buddies. Harold loved to garden and did so up until the age of 78.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Henry Mann and Jack Kumpe, sisters, Agnes Baxley, Susie Sullivan, Ruth Smith, Mable Glidewell, Edith Bradley, Wanda Snyder, EmaJean Miller and Bobbie Jo Rayl and his beloved miniature Pincher, Peanut.
Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita Sadler Mann of Benton, daughters, Cheryl (Mark) Vice, Janet Brown and Jennifer (Chris) Frank all of Benton, nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren with another one on the way in November.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Brown, Brandon vice, Bradley LeQuieu, Zach Oxley, Ian Frank, Edison Frank; Honorary Pallbearers will be Brayden Brown and Jacob Brown.
Visitation will be at Ashby Funeral Home on Saturday, 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with graveside services following at 1:00 p.m. at New Rosemont Cemetery with Mark Vice officiating.
Harold will be greatly missed by all that knew him but especially his family. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather that anyone could ever ask for.
Lois Ballinger, age 90, passed away on September 6, 2022. She was born on January 9, 1932 in Eudora, Arkansas to the late Fred and Mary Ritter.
Lois was employed by Dr. Hebert Fisher for 21 years before retiring in 1994. She became a member of Geyer Springs First Baptist in 1969.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Lorn Ballinger; two sons, Randy and Roger Ballinger; parents, Fred and Mary Ritter; and sisters: Jean Etue, Lucille Miller, and Mary Brown.
Lois is survived by her sisters: Nell Yoha of St. Peters, Missouri, Frances Humphries of Springdale, Arkansas, Jo Ann Burns (David) of Montrose, Arkansas, and Brenda Brown (Roy) of Kilbourne, Louisiana; and a host of family and friends who love her and will miss her always.
Special thanks to Arkansas Hospice Staff, Pleasant Hill Senior Living staff, special caregivers: Mary Catlett and Melissa Pearson who loved Mrs. B. and took exceptional care of her both “on and off duty”, and special neighbor, Nancy Hampel who lovingly cared for Mr. and Mrs. Ballinger.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 13, from 11:00 – 11:30 AM at Smith-Benton Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM. Interment held at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Zoa Anita (Grimmett) Adkins, 91, of Traskwood, Arkansas passed away September 7, 2022. Zoa was born March 27, 1931 to the late Olen Grimmett and Bertha (Chastain) Grimmett.
Zoa was the oldest of seven children. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family. Zoa enjoyed being outdoors, camping and doing her yard work. She always fed the birds and hummingbirds outside her home. Zoa loved her family, grandbabies, and fur babies.
Zoa is preceded in death by her parents, Olen Grimmett and Bertha (Chastain) Grimmett.
Zoa is survived by her son, Steven Rowland; daughter, Melissa Bradford and husband, Danny; grandchildren: Trevor, Crystal, Travis and wife, Kyleigh; as well as a host of family members and friends that will all miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, September 9, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market St.
