WILLIAM GRANT NEWMAN, JR. (BILL/HUBBA), age 72, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas after a brief illness. Bill was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on November 24, 1945. He attended St. Edwards High School in Texarkana, Arkansas and received a BBA from East Texas State University. He also served 4 years in the United States Air Forces as an Air Policeman. Ultimately, he settled on a successful lifetime career in Investment Banking and Municipal Bond Business. Bill enjoyed flying his Piper Dakota Plane. He was an avid horseman, who adored his family, friends, dogs and golf. Bill was preceded in death by his parents William and Elaine Newman, and his sister, Willaine Aycock. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry, his sister Bernadette Gerrald, and his 2 daughters, Angela Banks and Ashley Sutton. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren: Evan, Avery, Gracie and Brendon, as well as beloved nieces and nephews. Bill touched so many lives with his selflessness and need to help others. DONALD LEE HANSON, 71, of Hot Springs Village passed away July 8, 2018. He was born on September 5, 1946 in Seattle, WA to Robert L. Hanson and Virginia (Nelson) Hanson. Don’s profession was in aviation as a helicopter pilot for over forty years with the U.S. Army and Petroleum Helicopters, Inc. He served two tours in Vietnam and Germany. He was honored with two distinguished flying crosses, one with valor and numerous other medals for flying. Don flew as a Captain for Petroleum Helicopters, Inc. based in Lafayette, LA with assignments including Europe, Australia, West Area New Guinea, and many areas of the U.S. One area included Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Ark. for approximately eight years, which was a highlight of his life. Don and his wife, Kathy were members of Balboa Baptist Church of Hot Springs Village, Ark. He was also a disabled veteran, served for the MOAA military organization, and member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots’ Association. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Hanson, a son, Markus Hanson; a daughter, Susan Wilkins (Paul), a sister Kathleen Jacobson (Mikel) and two grandchildren, Lawson and Gunner Wilkins; nieces, Bradi Jacobson, Haley Cochran (Cainan), Laurie Curry (Kyle), Carmen Haynes (Jared), Carla Shelnutt (Doyle) and Elliana Jacobson; and nephews, Derek Jacobson (Julissa), Jason Jacobson (Tara), Kelton Broadway, Branden Broadway (Megan), Jordan Nolen, Joseph Nolen and Doyle Shelnutt; and numerous other family and friends. JEAN C. MOORE, 86, of Benton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 6, 2018. She was born July 17, 1931 in Bearden, Ark.; the second of seven children to Jesse and Gladys Vaughan Caldwell. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmy Moore; brother, Harry Caldwell; son-in-law, James Shelton and a daughter-in-law, Beth Moore. Jean was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where she served as church secretary for many years and was a choir member. She worked as bookkeeper for Bryant Exxon, the business that she co-owned and ran with her husband for several years. When she wasn’t working, she was busy taking care of five kids by cooking, cleaning, sewing clothes and attending school functions. MICHAEL LLOYD HOTCHKISS (OH’ MAN), born November 11,1952 in Sarasota, Florida to Garth Hotchkiss and Mary Sweenor Hotchkiss. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Karen Lane Hotchkiss. Two sons, Danny Lane (Emily) and Michael Lane (Paula), and daughter Michelle Moore. Five grandchildren, Jamie Beadle, Jeremy Beadle (Shelby), Connor Lane (Emma), Riley Lane, and Baylee Lane (who knew him as Oh’ Man). Survivors also include his father Garth Hotchkiss and sister Sheila Lott. He had in his life many family members including Ronnie and Gail Lane, Marilyn and Jimmy Lee and Sharon Brown. Nieces and nephews Michelle, Jay, Matt, Brian, Jared, Larry David, Genice, and Becky. Mike was on the air traffic controller and retired from the Postal Services after 22 years. EVERETT DELON ROWLAND, 78, of Bryant, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at his home. He was born February 4, 1940 at Washita, Arkansas to Lum and Viva Montgomery Rowland. Everett most enjoyed cattle farming and visiting with family and friends. Everett served this country in the 3710 BMTS Air Force unit and worked over 30 years as Arkansas State Surveyor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a 33rd degree Mason, Illustrious Potentate 2004 Scimitar Shrine Temple, and a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 12. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lisa Rowland, a son, Randy Rowland, a brother, Howard Rowland and a sister, Elouise Elston. He is survived by his son, Steve Rowland of North Little Rock; daughter, Christa Rowland of New York; brother, Darrell Rowland of Jacksonville; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and Barbara Rowland, his former wife and mother of Steve and Randy, and Everett’s caregiver for the last few months of his life. WAYNE S. SMITH, age 91, of Bryant, Arkansas, went to be the Lord on July 13, 2018. He was born in Roxton on September 15, 1926. Dr. Smith pastored in Blossom, Rocky Branch, Louisiana, Marshall, Arkansas First Baptist Church, Baring Cross North Little Rock, Arkansas, First Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, Sparkman, Arkansas First Baptist Church and served as Principal of the high school and junior high school in Sparkman, Arkansas. Mr. Smith was the founder of One to the Other Ministries, a foreign mission program that brought Christ to South America, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Europe. He earned his B.A. from Baylor University, his B.D. from the Seminary in Ft. Worth, his M.A. from Ouachita Baptist University and his ED.D from Northeast Louisiana University. Wayne was preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry and Ollie Smith; his brother, James Smith; and his granddaughter, Abbi Lane Smith. Dr. Smith leaves behind his son, Brett Smith and wife, Karen; granddaughter, Lilly Lynn Smith; and his great grandson, Ryan McKenzie Smith all of Benton, Arkansas. HARVEY ARTHUR BATTLES was born in the small community of Alread, Ark., on Oct. 30, 1943 and died in East End on June 23, 2018. Arthur was preceded in death by his biological father, Harvey A. Battles, his parents, Wade and Grace Jones Young, brother, Perry Young, and son, Phillip Battles Sr. Arthur is survived by his siblings, Bobby A. Mitchell (Betty), Darrell Young, and Clara Faucett (Pat); his daughters, Tina Nichols (Jimi), Sherry Battles, and June Mitchell (Nick); and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in addition to many nieces, a nephew, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Arthur also left behind his cherished fur-babies, Deacon and Stranger. Arthur, or “Harvey” as a lot of people knew him, always called Arkansas home, with his second home being the Carolinas, where he lived many years in and around Wilmington, N.C., and Georgetown, S.C. BRIAN LEONARD AUSTIN BISGOOD, age 89, of Mabelvale, born on February 14, 1929 in London, England, died on July 2, 2018 in Little Rock. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Irine Bisgood and one brother, John Bisgood. Brian proudly served six years in the British Army. He was particularly honored to serve a season on the Queen Mother’s Honor Guard. WILLIS FRANK CARLE, age 65, of Hensley passed away on July 9, 2018. He was born on April 3, 1953 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to the late Annabell Carle Jackson and Willis Carle. Willis was a free spirit and lived by his own rules he was a long-time resident of Utah until he moved to Arkansas in 2015 after retirement. He was a long-haul truck driver, mechanic, electrician, maintenance supervisor and a cowboy. He was a member for 33 years of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where he made many wonderful friends.
