Lawrence “Larry” Himes, Jr., 78 of Benton, Arkansas, passed away on July 3, 2022. He was born on December 20, 1943 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to the late Lawrence and Reba Henry Himes. Larry was of the Baptist faith and attended Gravel Hill Baptist Church. He also served in the Army National Guard.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother, George Himes and sisters, Janice Brocheys, Claire Luber, and Alice Himes; wife of 53 years and the love of his life, as he fondly called her “Shorty” Diane Himes.
He is survived by his son, Jason Himes, daughter, Stacy (Warren) Childress, grandchildren, Ashley (Kendrick) Smith, Ashton Himes, Chloe Childress, Kayland Childress and Madison Runyan; great grandchildren, Kennedy Smith, Maddox Taylor and Bella Runyan, all of Benton; brother, Ray Himes of Pennsylvania, Art (Myrna) Himes of Arkansas, Cal (Dee) Himes of Idaho and sisters in law, Mary Sue Fortner and Sherry Moore of Benton, alone with many nieces and nephews.
Larry had a very strong work ethic with a flooring business early in his adult years and worked as a custodian at Saline Memorial Hospital and Benton Junior High School later on in his life. He loved going to work and developing relationships with others. Larry was a big fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Pittsburgh Steelers and St. Louis Cardinals. His most favorite pastime was spending time with his family, but most importantly, his grandchildren. He attended all sporting events, constantly played with them and enjoyed watching movies with them. His is known for his famous “Papa’s Pancakes” that all of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews rave about. Larry served his family well and will be dearly missed by all.
Pallbearers will be Ashton Himes, Nick James, Aaron James, Clayton James, Blake Martin, David Himes and Dain Carver.
Graveside services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9th at Gravel Hill Cemetery with Brother Duncan Collins officiating. There will be an open Visitation at Ashby Funeral Home.

On the morning of July 5, 2022, Steven Lawrence Scott died at the age of 80 after suffering a massive stroke. He was born to the late Samuel and Phyllis Scott, in Rockford, Illinois on September 13, 1941. Steve graduated from North Little Rock High School and went on to join the U.S. Navy, where he served on the U.S.S. Corporal and earned the Good Conduct Medal. For the majority of his life, Steve worked as a plumber and eventually started his own company, A Repair Plumbing.
After an ultra light wreck in 1993, that put him in a wheelchair, Steve continued to have a positive and happy outlook on life and would not let his injuries slow him down.
Steve’s favorite hobby was spending time surrounded by family and friends. He also enjoyed getting his hands dirty while working on any type of engine. Steve was known for his smile, positive attitude, ability to talk to anyone, and willingness to help a neighbor in need.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, Samuel; mother, Phyllis; brothers: Vernon Lee and Arthur Ralph; and sister, Patricia.
Steve is survived by his son, Keith (Lane); daughter, Valerie Ayers (Willie); grandchildren: Kaitlyn Gill (Ryan), Wade Scott, Antonio, Breezy, and Stormy Ayers; great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Darcy Gill; sister, Martha Bowling and Sally Scott; as well as a large group of nieces, nephews, and friends that will all miss him dearly.
Visitation is Friday, July 8, from 12:00- 1:00 PM, at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM.
