Ruby Nell Shelnutt, 91, of Bryant, passed away on June 3, 2018. She was born on June 16, 1926 in Falcon, Arkansas to the late Bernard Porter Carlton and Maude Mae McGough Carlton. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Ruby was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry D. Long Sr. and Ralph Waldo Shelnutt, five brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her sons, Harry (Betty) Long of Sherwood, Jimmy R. Long of Mabelvale, W. Frankie (Jean) Long of Gentry and Tony D. L. “Gene” Crist Jr., age 88, of Alexander, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018. He was born Nov. 12, 1929 in Little Rock, Ark. Gene was a U. S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. He retired as Assistant Police Chief on Sept. 15, 1973 for the City of Little Rock after 21 years of service. Gene later retired again as Business Manager of the Little Rock Police Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene L. Crist Sr. and Faye Crist; wife, Joan O. Crist and a sister, Ethel Jean Short. He is survived by two sons, Eugene L. Crist III of Benton and Michael D. Crist and wife LaQuita of Alexander; sister, Elizabeth Loomis of Bigelow; four grandchildren, Bradley Crist of Conway, Dustin Crist and wife Christy of Little Rock, Cody Crist and wife Megan of Bryant and Andrew Crist of Alexander; three great-grandchildren, Morrigan, Catherine, Keelan and one great-granddaughter arriving in September. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 14 at Ashby Funeral Home for E. L. and his wife Joan (who passed away Oct. 23, 2015). Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock. Lillian Jeanette Dean, 78, of Benton, passed away on June 3, 2018. She was born on February 17, 1940 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the late Walter and Lillian Ann Cogbill Johnson. Jeanette was retired from CARTI as a Radiology Tech and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed many years in helping with The Toys For Tots program during Christmas. Jeanette was preceded in death by her son, Alan Hawkins, parents, Walter and Lillian Johnson, brothers, Walter and Billy Johnson, sister, Judy Murphy; sister in law, Vanda Johnson. W.M. Smith, 77, of Benton, died peacefully surrounded by family in Valparaiso, Indiana on June 4, 2018. He was born in Crossett, Arkansas on February 26, 1941 to W.D. and Myrtice Smith. W.M. was a master Barber for 58 years, holding licenses in Arkansas, Kansas, Michigan and Montana. He was an ordained minister for 50 years and pastored churches in Arkansas, Kansas, Michigan, Montana and Oklahoma. He loved hunting, fishing in Montana under the big sky and spending time with family and friends. W.M. was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eddie Smith. He is survived by his “one and only” love of 58 years, Grace Kumpe Smith, sons, Wesley Keith (Kelly) Smith of Billings, Montana, Gerald LaDon (Susan) Smith of Chesterton, Indiana, daughter, Alisa (Cal) Grisham of Sumter, South Carolina, sisters, Bettye Rea Hansche of Ramona, Oklahoma, Cathey Kelly of Crossett, Arkansas, Aunt Shirley Smith. Roy Leon Potts, 76, of Benton, died June 5, 2018. He was born August 9, 1941 to the late Lilburn “Jake” and Hettie Ragsdale Potts in Little Rock. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ruby Mae Potts; and nine siblings. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, car racing and playing dice, card and board games. Roy loved being with his family. He retired from FedEx as a mechanic. Roy is survived by his son, Floyd Leon Potts and favorite daughter-in-law, Jeanna Ellen Potts of Benton; two grandchildren, Christian Tyler Potts (Alex), Carson Tanner Potts; great-granddaughter on the way, Leona Mae Potts; three sisters, Eva, Mickey, Linda; one brother, William “Bull” Potts (Ruth); and very special friend, Sue Skinner. James Howard Lavender, 73 of Bryant, passed away on June 10, 2018. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Ward E. and Reba Lewis Lavender. Jim was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Benton, where he was a Sunday school teacher and with the help of his wife, led a grief support group for many years. All who knew Jim said he was a fair man in business and had a dry sense of humor. He was in the grocery business for 45 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Jenny Ann Lavender and brother, Richard Allen Lavender.
