This combined with her hard work would earn her a scholarship on the inaugural woman’s basketball team at Williams Baptist College. After two years, she was recruited to play at Arkansas State University where she would be a top scorer and earned a bachelors degree in education.
Sandra taught 8th grade science for 34 years around the state of Arkansas, impacting thousands of young people. While teaching at Gosnell Junior High School, she met the love of her life and was married to Jim Stanley on October 20, 1990. In the following years, they would have three beautiful children, Julie, Jessica, and Matthew.
Sandra was always a woman of strong Christian faith, sharing her love of Jesus with friends, colleagues and pupils anytime she could. She loved being outdoors and always had the most impressive garden. Sandra loved the fall season and holidays, never letting one pass without celebration. Her greatest worldly love was her family, especially her children. She would always say “My greatest accomplishment on this earth is these three kids”.

She is survived by her faithful husband Jim, her children Julie (husband Cawley), Jessica and Matt; and her siblings Arthur, Daniel and Winnie Walmsley.
We know many will say “in lieu of flowers/plants” but Sandra loved flowers. If you feel so led, flowers will be cherished. But better yet, honor her by planting a seed, flower, bush or tree. Celebrate her beautiful life by cultivating anew.
We would like to thank her team at CARTI and Baptist Hospice Care for taking such wonderful care of her during these difficult times. We are forever grateful.
Jerry Wayne Harned, AKA “Dog” 62 of Little Rock passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice with his daughters at his bedside.
He was born October 17, 1959, to Loys “Edd” and Patricia Gary Harned. Jerry was the third of ten children. He grew up in the Fourche Dam Community whereas a kid he and friends tinkered with bikes, go-carts, played in the dirt with cars, (even at age 15!) built grass forts, and played baseball in the field behind the house. Later his interests turned to motorcycles, four wheelers, packing the dirt at I-30 Speedway, racing cars on “Port Road”, fishing, partying and raising hell! Brothers and friends were subjected to some intense wrestling at times until “Dog” got too old! He worked 31 years at Granite Mountain Quarry where he made life-long friends. Jerry accepted Christ as his Savior at his own father’s funeral in 2004. One of his first jobs was a Gazette paperboy in the Richland neighborhood. Occasionally, he was found asleep atop his apron full of rolled newspapers in someone’s yard or on the curb! So many of his antics, humor and times in the “Doghouse” were shared over this past week as we sat vigil with him and his daughters.
Their fondest memories are of fishing with him at the quarry, watching NASCAR races – he and Jennifer rooting for #16 Mark Martin and Jimbo and JerriKaye #3 Dale Earnhart! Jerry would cook for race day, and it was an all-day party! Dear to their hearts also were times spent with family at gatherings. One Christmas he dressed as Santa. His heart went out to kids, people in everyday struggles. He volunteered at Toy Hill gathering toys for Christmas, loaded supplies on trucks after Katrina, helped with clean up in East End after the ’97 tornados and even as of last year, offered shelter to a young homeless man and his baby who were living in a car in the cold _ too good hearted!
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimbo; sisters, Barbara Cates and Annette Berney; brother-in-law, Kim Cates.
He is survived by his loving daughters, JerriKaye Harned “Jason” and Jennifer Taylor; brothers, Michael Duggan “Jennifer”, and Ricky Duggan, brother-in-law, Donn Berney; sisters, Charlotte Powel, Julie Linn “Mike”, Sandra Neely “John”, Donna Null “Rick”; grandchildren, Stormey, Hunter, Amy, Alyssa, Aaron, Aleah; great grandchildren, Dustin, Colby and Hazel Grace is due September 2022 and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who all love him and will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, from 6-8 PM at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home in Bryant. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Francois Cemetery in Malvern next to Jimbo, but not by the tree! (wink)
In lieu of flowers please donate to Toys for Tots this Christmas c/o Rodney’s Cycle House or a local food bank.
Many thanks to Saline Memorial Hospital staff, from the ER to the 5th floor, for care and support to this family and our loved one during this difficult time.
