Daryl James Hanig I, age 81, of Benton, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018. He was born May 17, 1936 in Hampton, Iowa. Daryl was a U. S. Army Veteran and a retired foreman from Alcoa. He owned and operated Hanig Studio with his wife, Lynn. Daryl was the official photographer for the Miss Arkansas and Miss America Pageants. He helped build and was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Margaret Hanig; son, Francis Eric Hanig and his sister, Marilyn Tarver. Daryl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jenna Lynn Hanig; two sons, Daryl James Hanig II and Jason Hanig (Tiffaney); two daughters, Jenna Henry and Bridget Shelnut; daughter-in-law, Karen Hanig; step-sister, Clara DelSoto; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Freddie Eugene Rowland I, age 78, of Alexander passed away Monday February 19, 2018. He was born July 6, 1939 in Benton. Freddie was a retired truck driver for Webco Inc. and a US Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Glenna Louallen Rowland, and a daughter, Freda Carol Rowland. Delbert (Dickey) Lobbs, age 80, of Benton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 22, 2018. He was born on June 30, 1937 in Benton, Arkansas to the late Homer and Effie Lobbs and preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Whitfield. He retired from the Pulpwood Industry, having worked with Talbert Timber Company. Dickey loved fishing & camping and being with his family. You could always find him sitting on the couch with his dogs, Spike and Cookie. Dickey will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Lobbs. It all started with a flower that a pastor told him to give her and she would be his wife. He will be admiringly remembered by his three grandchildren, Debra Ray, Sharla Whitfield and William Whitfield & five great-grandchildren, Danielle and Michael Ray, Clayton and Terra Whitfield and Ethan Schiele. Ralph J. Greene of Hot Springs Village, AR passed away on February 20th, 2018. He was born August 7th, 1934 in Des Arc, Arkansas to Mitchum and Mary Greene. Mr. Greene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn of 53 years, and his sisters Ollie Smith, Jeanetta McClain and Vivian Watkins. He is survived by his daughter Tracy New (Jason). His grandchildren, Kara and Hunter Amato, his sisters Margaret Purvis and Shirley Sullivan and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Greene served his country in the Air Force and was President of the UFCW local 1583. He was a tough and furious negotiator and devout Democrat. Greg Hughes, 53, of Bryant passed away on February 16th with his family by his side. Greg was born in Malvern, Arkansas on January 26, 1965. He attended school at Bismarck where he met his wife Lynn. Greg and Lynn became high school sweethearts their senior year and married after Greg graduated college. Greg and Lynn were married for 31 years but their relationship was more than just husband and wife, they were best friends. Through the many highs and lows during their life together Greg was always the rock for his family. His love for Lynn, his daughters Taylor and Allison was seen by everyone that knew him. He always put his family needs and wants above his. Whether it was the family vacations or going out to eat Greg always said “whatever you guys want”. Some of the most cherished memories by the family are Greg’s coaching of his daughter’s basketball team and soccer team. Greg loved basketball but through his daughters love of soccer he became a true fan. During the last Women’s World Cup in Canada Greg planned a family vacation so his daughters could attend one of US Women’s soccer games. Sadly, it was the last family vacation but one that will be remembered for a lifetime. James “Jimmy” Lowell Conway, 56 of Mabelvale, Arkansas passed away February 23, 2018. He was born to D.L. and Imogene Conway on September 15, 1961 in Little Rock, Arkansas. David Price, 68, of East End passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018. He was born August 30, 1949 in Little Rock to the late William and Mildred Price. Avery William Gardner, Jr., 66, of Benton, Arkansas met our Lord February 15, 2018. He was born April 14, 1951 in Daytona Beach, Florida to the late Avery Walter, Sr. and Annie (Kline) Gardner. Avery was of the Baptist faith. He loved the mountains and would visit Petit Jean with his family. Spending time fishing-even during thunderstorms was a favorite hobby. In his earlier years, Avery enjoyed playing badminton and croquet. He listened to music of all genres. His family cherishes the many evenings they would spend watching movies together. Avery had over two thousand movies that he had catalogued and organized. Preceding Avery in death are his parents; son, Sean William Gardner; sister, Annie Lee Paul; and brother, Avery Gardner, III. Donald “Don” Eugene Mason, 77, of Benton, Arkansas went to be with our Lord on February 16, 2018. He was born February 15, 1941 in Benton, Arkansas to the late Elmer and Emily Annas (Reed) Mason. Don proudly served in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Don worked at Westinghouse for over twenty-five years. He was a member of the Benton Four Square Church and loved his church family with all his heart. Don was also a member of the American Legion Post #263. At the young age of 48, Don proudly became a DJ, and was known as “Mr. DJ”. Don was preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years, Sheena Mason; and his parents. Jo Katherine Heinz, 83, of Benton, Arkansas went to be with our Lord on February 16, 2018. She was born August 20, 1934 in Collinsville, Mississippi to the late James Bryant and Pearl (Gibson) Ezell. Jo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and veteran. She proudly served in the United States Navy in which she earned the National Defense Service Medal for her service during the Korean War. Jo was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church. She loved the Lord with all her heart and served him by caring for others. She taught her family to always look for the best in everyone-regardless of any past mistakes they may have made. At both New Life Baptist Church and Spring Creek Baptist Church, Jo would send cards of encouragement to fellow Sunday School members who had missed attending class, were sick, had a loved one pass away, for birthday blessings, or just to cheer them up. Jo and her husband enjoyed going camping and spending time with their family. Jo was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and seven sisters. Steven Leslie McCumpsey, 61, of Bauxite, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 18, 2018. Bessie Bailey graduated from time into eternity on February 21, 2018. She was 93 and born on February 27, 1924 – six days from her 94th birthday. She was a devout Christian and loved serving the Lord by doing for others. She was a member of Vimy Ridge Immanuel Baptist Church at Vimy Ridge, Arkansas. God gifted her with playing the piano starting at age five and she was still playing the piano three months ago. Bessie was a volunteer and president of volunteers serving SWR Medical Center. She was a Sunday School teacher at her church and a Bible Study teacher at many different homes throughout her life. She was very knowledgeable in the book of Revelation and taught it for many years. Bessie was Postmaster at Vimy Ridge and then at Alexander Post Office where she retired from after thirty-two years. She was a first-aid instructor for the American Red Cross, Home Bound Director for the elderly and entertained and taught the Bible for many years. Bessie worked at the schools, retirement homes, served her community, and visited the sick as Chaplain at SWR. In the 40’s she taught school in Vimy Ridge. She taught the family about racism and how it was wrong. Bessie was a faithful servant and loved everybody. Bessie was preceded in death by her sons Larry and Bobby Bailey; and her parents, Charles and Sarah Butler. She is survived by her sons: Jerry Holloway and his wife Ruth, Verlon Bailey and his wife Donna; Lanette Bailey, wife of Larry (deceased); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma Pauline Wilson who has been living with her for the last four years of her life. They were both great company to each other. Sparky and Donna took care of mom for the last 22 years. Sparky and Jerry will miss her very much. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Butler Cemetery, in which the land was donated to the community by her father. Vera Virginia Sawyer, 89, of Alexander, Arkansas went to be with our Lord February 21, 2018. She was born September 13, 1928 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Theodore and Elsie (Bright) Barnhart. Vera loved her family. She enjoyed spending time with them and preparing amazing meals for them. Family favorites includes homemade tamales and delicious fudge. Vera loved people and was always looking for ways to help however she could. She was a wonderful artist and loved to draw. Family still cherished her drawings today. In Vera’s younger years, she and her family would spend time camping and fishing. Vera also had a love for card games. She was a member of the Bridge Club and enjoyed getting together with friends to play cards. Preceding Vera in death are her husband, Robbie Sawyer; parents; daughter, Sharon Skinner; great-granddaughter, Taylor Boullie, brother, Buddy Barnhart; and sister, Alice “Shug” Byers. She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Robbie Sawyer of Alexander, Arkansas, and Brenda Epnett and husband Louis of Sheridan, Arkansas; seven grandchildren: Tonya Fair and husband Rick, Tracey Metzner and husband Jason, Rikki Lea Boullie, David Sawyer, Tabatha Sawyer, Cody Sawyer, and Caity Capp and fiancé Austin Curtiss; seven great-grandchildren: Tara Grehl and husband Falco, Chelsea Anderson, Kayla Brown and husband Josh, Amber French, Riane Boullie, Cara Boullie, and Paige Boullie; nine great-great grandchildren: Brayden Clay, Karsyn Grehl, Skyler Smith, Jaxson Smith, Kolby Smith, Amara Hogue, Izzabelle Hogue, Oakleigh Brown, and Connor Boullie; and a host of family and friends who love Vera and will miss her always. Mrs. Edna “Granny” (Spence) Hunter, age 79, of Bryant, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on February 14, 2018. She was born in Blytheville, Arkansas on September 2, 1938 to Henry and Ila Spence; the 9th of 13 children. She grew up on a farm in North East Arkansas, but later lived in California, Texas and Arizona. She moved back to Arkansas last May to be close to family. She loved people and never met a stranger. She was a care giver for many friends and family members who preceded her. She was always ready to travel to see kin and had a special place in her heart for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was licensed Cosmetologist, a member of the Emblem Club and collected hummingbirds. Her favorite music was old country – anything on “Willies Road House”. She trusted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, Texas in 1969. In latter days her faith and hope in Christ continued to increase right up until the moment He took her home. She attended Hope Church in Bryant. She is survived by her children; Terry Allenbaugh (Sandy), Karen Bryant (Mark), Kevin Allenbaugh, siblings; Terrell Therrell, Opal Bernstein, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and her constant companion for the past five years, her dog Sassie. Burton W. Wilson. Jr. 73, of Benton, passed away February 15, 2018. He was born September 22, 1944 in Crestview, Florida. He was the son of Mary Wilson and Burton W. Wilson, Sr. Burton spent 21 years in the U.S. Navy as a chief medical corpsman. He was a faithful member of Congo Road Baptist Church in Benton. He enjoyed reading, learning about history, shopping, and sports. He loved baseball and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Reeda Wilson; his children, Kimberly Hood, Jeffrey (Tracey) Wilson, and Marla (John) Lemmerman; his brother, Larry (Pat) Wilson; his grandchildren, Rikki Wilson, Jacob Palmquist, Teddy Hood, Kayce Wilson, and Tanner Wilson. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Pinecrest Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m., and burial will immediately follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
