Virginia Ellen Thompson, 97 of Benton, passed away on February 14, 2022. She was born on February 8, 1925 in San Diego, California to the late Francis Hidelgo and Stella Paulona Hodgson Graalfs. Virginia was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Benton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Mark Greer Thompson and daughter, Linda Breckenridge.
Virginia is survived by her granddaughter, Anne Elizabeth (James) Burns and grandson, Breck Allen Breckenridge; great grandsons, Jack and Stephen Burns, Tanner West; great great granddaughter, Eva Burns.
Church services by Ashby Funeral Home will be 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2022 at First Lutheran Church in Benton with Pastor James Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery in Alexander.
Visitation will be held on Monday at Ashbys, 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
On February 15th, Kathleen Sue Briggs age 74, of Benton, went to the home she longed for her entire life…heaven. Her fierce love of God & family made her a tower of strength and a beacon of hope to everyone. To know her was to know the love of Christ, which radiated from her very being. She was blessed to be raised in a loving Christian home by her parents who cherished her, Louie & DorisTurner.
On February 18th, 1966 she married the only man she ever loved, Dennis Briggs. They had 3 beautiful children, Michael, Christopher and Susan, who she loved with all her heart. They blessed her life with joy and laughter by giving her 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She attended First Baptist Church of Benton. For 35 years she worked selflessly alongside her forever best friend, her sister, Beverly Sadowski. There will always be a hole in the hearts of all of us who were blessed to have known this precious lady, but we rejoice that she went home peacefully to the Lord she loved more than life itself.
Graveside services will be11:00 AM Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock.
Robert Gordon Young, 70 of Benton passed away on February 16, 2022 at Village Springs Health and Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Hot Springs. He was born on July 1, 1951 in Little Rock to the late Tom Ross Young, Sr. and Ruth Carrington Young.
He was raised in Malvern, Arkansas and was a 1970 graduate of Malvern High School. Robert was a member of Spring Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Benton. He was a former member of Malvern Jaycees and Malvern Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Ross Young, Sister-in-law Mrs. Tommy (Judy) Young and father in law, Rev. Carl E. Wright.
His survivors include: Judy Sheridan Young of Benton, daughter, Sarah Danielle Young of Benton. Two sons, Bryan (Tara) Sheridan and Matthew Sheridan all of Benton. Two brothers, Cary (Pam) Young of White Hall and Tommy Young of Malvern. Mother in law, Mary Allene Wright of Benton. Robert had four grandchildren. Austin Sheridan, Joshua Sheridan, Kailee Sheridan and Macey Sheridan all of Benton. Plus several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was retired from Young Real Estate and Insurance of Malvern. Robert and Judy also owned and operated J&R Video/Pizza Pro in Shaw Community.
Robert met the love of his life in October, 1989. They fell in love and married on May 5, 1990. He was one of the most loving and caring people. He loved people. Robert loved sports and an avid Razorback fan. He loved God and his family. Robert was so proud of all his family. He loved to travel. In the past, he traveled to the Holy Lane, Hawaii and several cruises.
Funeral service will be Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Terry Parrish and Bro. Kim Hammer officiating. Burial will be at Rosemont Cemetery in
Benton.

Marion Wallace Little, 79, of Benton passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 16, 2022. Marion was born on April 15, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Joe and Ellen Little. Marion grew up in Magnet Cove, Arkansas and graduated from Magnet Cove High School in 1960. Marion graduated from Henderson State University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Marion was a Certified Public Accountant, and was a partner of Little, Shaneyfelt, Marshall and Company for 27 years.
Marion enjoyed spending time with his family, and leaves to cherish many wonderful memories from family trips, lake weekends, fishing trips and ballpark days. He also loved playing golf and spending time with his many golfing buddies and friends.
Marion also enjoyed time spent with members of his beloved Charton family.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Sue Kramer of Minnesota and granddaughter, Rachel Estell of Benton
Marion is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Brenda Fite Little; son, Steve and wife Mary Beth; son, Dennis; daughter, Karen Maxwell and special friend Rick Kinder; and son, Greg and wife Holley all of Benton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren who were the lights of his life; Matt Little and wife Laura; Michael Nash and wife Erica; Kaleigh Little, Brendan Little, Zach Villarreal, Cooper Maxwell, Molly Maxwell and Olivia Little. He is also survived by five wonderful great grandchildren, Callie and Bennett Little, Cadence and Sawyer Nash and Madison Chism all of Benton. He is also survived by a brother, James (Butch) Little and wife Donna of Idabel, Oklahoma.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 2:00pm at Ashby Funeral Home in Benton. A visitation will immediately follow the service. A family burial service will be held at a later date.

James Brooklyn Jenkins, Sr., 78, of Benton, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. He was born on November 8, 1943, in Crossett, AR, to his parents, Arlee and Lurlene Jenkins. James loved to work. By trade, he was a retired heavy equipment operator and supervisor for Patton Wrecking for over 50 years, where his coworkers became lifelong friends. In his free time, he loved being outdoors: drinking a cold beer, working in his garden, watching horse races, or moving dirt on a piece of equipment. He was quiet, but headstrong, a one-of-a-kind dad and papaw who took great pride in his family. James loved spending the weekends visiting his kids, especially to eat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Donald Jenkins, and survived by his wife of 49 years, Glenda Henry Jenkins, who affectionately called him, “Hairball”; two sons, Justin Jenkins (Cari Jo) and James Jenkins, Jr. (Annette); three daughters; Christy Waddell (Steve), Jamie Mathis (Shawn), and Janelle Hicks (John). James had eight grandchildren, three of which he helped raise: his best friend, who was faithfully by his side during these past months, Cory James Mathis, and Kyle Logan Overton & Karissa Dawn Waddell and 3 beautiful great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bobby O. Jenkins (Kathy) and Glen A. Jenkins (Debbie); two sisters, Camille Brookings, and Carolyn Morin (Fred); along with a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews he loved dearly, as well as his caregiver for over two years, Tonya Farish.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Ashby’s Funeral Home, 108 West Narroway, in Benton, AR., with Bro. Kim Hammer, officiating followed by internment at Social Hill Cemetery.

James Michael White, 64, of Benton, passed away on February 17, 2022. He was born on December 1, 1957, in Whitwell, TN. Known as Poppa by his grandkids and a gentle giant to others, he was an avid fisherman who loved golf, the outdoors, and his church family at Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member for many years. He retired from MOPAC/UPAC RR after 40 years of dedicated service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carolyn Maxine White and James Arlie White.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Terri White; daughters Hollie Shepherd (Michael), and Lindsey Blaylock (Stetson); grandchildren Mason, Jordyn, Kei, and Linnie; brother Mark (Sandy); father-in-law Charles E. Scribner; mother-in-law Theda A. Scribner; brother-in-law Tommy Scribner (Jamey); sister-in-law Tami (Eddie); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Ashby Funeral Home on Monday, February 21, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., with a funeral service at Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church on February 22, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., followed by internment at Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church.

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Alice M LaPlant (Grandma) went to be with our Lord and Savior on February 17, 2022 at age 94. She was born in Benton May 25, 1927 to William and Verda Moore, (Granny Moore). She was married on December 7, 1953 to Joseph T LaPlant. She was a member of Collegeville Missionary Baptist Church. She retired from Westinghouse/Phillips Lamp Company in 1987 after working there for 27 years. She was a longtime member of TOPS until her health failed her. Her hobbies during the course of her life were cooking for her family, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and going to flea markets. Shopping with her best running buddy Lucy Hambric, at Dillards every Saturday to check out the sales! Her greatest joy was having family get togethers at her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Sisters, Bertha Noakes, Dimple Louallen, Oleta Tucker, Lona Balding, Bernice Sullivan, Dorothy Shelnutt, and Jean Gault. Brothers, Homer and James Moore.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Phyllis Woodell, Faye (Larry) Stillman, Karen (Randy) Brooks, she was blessed with six grandchildren, Amanda (Jimmy) Lovell, William (Wendy) Woodell, Keith (Hunter) Woodell, Melanie (Wes) Davis, Bradley Stillman and Steven Brooks. Five beloved great-grandchildren, Payton Mabry, Baylee Mabry, Anna Davis, Allie Davis and AJ Davis. (AJ was born on her 93 rd birthday, she said he was the best gift ever!) Sister-in-law, Charlene Moore, brother-in-law, Robert LaPlant. Along with many beloved nieces and nephews, and a host of loving family and friends.

Terry Minton Sr. age 71, of Benton, died Friday, February 18, 2022. He was born May 15, 1950 in Little Rock. Terry worked at A.O. Smith Fiberglass for 25 years and was a U S Army Veteran. He was preceded in in death by his parents, Thomas Minton and Theda Jamison Minton.
Survivors, wife, Susan Minton, son, Terry Minton Jr., daughters, Kristie Talley and Kacie Minton, brothers, Melvin Minton and J. K. Minton, sister, Celeste Whitlock, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Stacy McCumpsey, 47, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away February 14, 2022. She was born May 7, 1974 in Little Rock to William “Jerrell” and Joyce (Crutchfield) McCumpsey.
Stacy was of the Baptist faith. Her family was the most important part of Stacy’s life. She always cared for her children and gave them everything she could. Stacy enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, and often took her youngest son Reese with her. Christmas was her favorite time of year and would make beautiful wreaths and ornaments for her family. Stacy loved children and taught in elementary schools for many years.
Preceding Stacy in death are her paternal grandparents, William and Jeanett McCumpsey; and maternal grandparents, Cecil and Fannie Crutchfield.
Stacy leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons: Chase Sheeks and Reese Ashley of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter, Bailey Sheeks of Conway, Arkansas; grandchildren: Hunter Sheeks, Hadlee Sheeks, Huck Sheeks, and one grandson on the way; parents, William “Jerrell” and Joyce McCumpsey of Little Rock, Arkansas; brother, Sonny McCumpsey of Little Rock, Arkansas; and many family members and friends who love Stacy and will miss her always.

Vernon Don Newcomb, 78, of Benton, Arkansas passed away February 15, 2022. Don was born August 22, 1943 to the late Inez (Hester) and Pat Newcomb.
Don is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis Newcomb; his parents; brother, Gary Newcomb; and sisters: Patricia Larsen and Theda White.
Don graduated from the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and went on to become a renowned equine veterinarian and thoroughbred trainer, serving as the state veterinarian at many of the country’s finest racetracks.
Don and Phyllis were inseparable during life and now, death. He was the type of man that never left you wondering long how or where you stood with him, and never found a problem he couldn’t solve with sheer will and determination. Although Don may have been an outlaw by nature, he had a gentle heart. Later in life, Don’s hobbies included gardening and enjoying a slower pace, but he was never found too far from a racing form.
Don is survived by his two sons: Scott and Brad Newcomb and their wives Kelley and Stephanie; five grandchildren: Jake, Dillon, Noah, Jude, and Silas; siblings Brenda Johnson and David Newcomb; and a lifetime of family and friends made who will all miss him dearly.

Billy P. Morris, 87, of Benton, peacefully passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family. He was born on March 27, 1934 in Little Rock, AR, to the late William (Bill) Morris and Eunice Marie Morris. Mr. Morris retired after working for Coca-Cola Company in Little Rock, Arkansas for 35 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church and loved the outdoors.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) Morris and Eunice Marie Morris.
In addition to his parents, two sisters, Sherri McGill and husband Mickey McGill and Jacque Morrow also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn M. Morris of Benton Arkansas of 62 years of marriage; two daughters, Melinda C. Covert and husband John of Sheridan, AR and Stacy Morris of Cabot, AR; and two grandchildren, Amber Covert Webb and husband Miles Webb of Sheridan, AR and Sarah Covert of Sheridan, AR; and one great-grandchild, Jack Ashton Webb.
Billy entered the Air Force at the age of 17. He spent his time in the service in Panama as part of a Medical unit.
Billy married Carolyn Marie Duckworth of Little Rock, Arkansas, April 28, 1961 at Mablevale Methodist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas. He began his career with the Coca-Cola Company in 1959. Served as Route Manager in Batesville, Morrilton, and Little Rock, AR. He retired from the Coca-Cola Company in 1994.
Billy was active in First United Methodist Church in Benton, Arkansas. Billy loved activities with the family, the outdoors while hunting and participating in shooting matches with the Benton Gun Club. Billy and Carolyn spent time traveling to West Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado to visit with family and close friends.
Graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., February 26, 2022 at Pinecrest Memorial Park with Rev. Keith Dodson and Rev. Mark Norman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service, from 1:00-2:00 PM at the cemetery. Interment following at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Highway 5 in Alexander, Arkansas.

William Edward “Bill” Dewberry, 64, of Bryant, Arkansas passed away February 16, 2022. He was born July 15, 1957 in Cook County, Illinois to the late Buddy and Loraine (Gluck) Dewberry.
Bill was always the life of the party and brightened the room when he walked in. He was a very giving man who would do anything for you. Bill could tell stories for hours about his job as a correctional officer where he was given the nickname “Mr. Dew”, as well as his hunting and fishing stories. He loved being a part of a big family who loved and supported each other. Family game nights were full of fun playing cards and spending time together. Bill loved his pets, and they were considered a part of the family too! Some of Bill’s favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley. He especially enjoyed fishing with his brother, Robert, and his grandsons, Jayce and Gunnar. He was a longtime member of the Rowell Hunting Club, as well as, a member of the Benton Gun Club. He loved going to the gun range with his family for a day of shooting. In his younger years, Bill would help his father with gardening and raising chickens. He had a booth in a flea market that he worked with his brother, sister, and grandson, Jayce. His hopes were to earn enough to buy a nice fishing boat.
Preceding Bill in death are his parents, Buddy and Loraine Dewberry; stepmother, Jean Dewberry; and grandparents: Velma Wood, and Alfred and Iona Levreau.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 23 years, Catherine Dewberry of Bryant, Arkansas; son, Shane Dewberry and wife Brittany of Alexander, Arkansas; grandchildren, Jayce and Gunnar Dewberry; brother, Robert Dewberry and wife Kathy of Benton, Arkansas; sister, Charlotte Derrick and husband Donald of Traskwood, Arkansas; stepbrother, Sandy Dryman and wife Kim of Shannon Hills, Arkansas; stepsister, Lynnette Seilkop and husband Jonathan of Deland, Florida; mother-in-law, Janet Brandt of Bryant, Arkansas; father-in-law, Earl Brandt of Klamath Falls, Oregon; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends who love Bill and will miss him always.
Celebration of Life services will be held at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, Tuesday, February 22, with visitation held 5:00-6:00 PM, followed by time of sharing memories at 6:00 PM.

Larnell Clinton “L.C.” Robinson, 86, of Benton, Arkansas passed away February 17, 2022. He was born June 16, 1935 in Bluff City, Arkansas to the late Wallace and Sula (Nichols) Robinson.
L.C. was an extremely hard worker, retiring from not one, but three places of employment. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, then retired from the United States Post Office as a rural mail carrier in Gurdon, and finally retired as a driver at Everett GMC. L.C. worked full-time until he was eighty-two years “young”. L.C. met the love of his life when she was still in high school. They eloped and that true love carried them through a wonderful sixty-five years of marriage. L.C. adored his daughter Regina and enjoyed their daily calls every afternoon. His pride and joy was his grandsons and great-grandchildren. He was their number one fans at their ballgames. L.C. was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and also enjoyed tinkering with cars and doing mechanical work.
Preceding L.C. in death are his parents; and brother, Aubrey Robinson.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Charlotte Robinson of Benton, Arkansas; daughter, Regina Icenhower and husband Dewayne of Benton, Arkansas; grandsons: Derek Jester and wife Megan, Cody Icenhower, and Beau Icenhower; great-grandchildren: Drake, Cade, Colt, Lane and Whitlee ; sister, Linda Thrasher and husband Frankie of Gurdon, Arkansas; his special little dog, Charlie; and many family members and friends who love L.C. and will miss him always.

Joel Clifford Clark, 86, of Benton, passed away into the arms of his Heavenly Father on February 17, 2022, having lived a life full of love and joy. Joel was born on December 26, 1935 in Brighton, Illinois, the son of Clifford Clark and Vivian Clark.
Joel attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and went on to do work for Alcoa as an electrician until his retirement. He loved playing pool, flying planes, riding motorcycles, playing softball, golf, and fishing.
Above all else, Joel loved God and his family. Joel met the love of his life, Mary Yvonne Clark, in 1959. They were married on March 11, 1960, and had two daughters, Cristy and Linda, to whom he was the most devoted and loving father for 61 years.
Joel is survived by his loving wife, Mary Yvonne Clark, and their daughters, Cristy Nolte and her husband, Michael Nolte, and Linda Kurupas and her husband, Gregory Kurupas; their grandchildren: Lee George, Ashley Anglin and husband Scotty Anglin, Matthew Kurupas and wife Kat Kurupas, and Kelsey Kurupas; and their great-grandchildren: Morgan George, Caden Anglin, Laiken Anglin, Camden Anglin, and Sawyer Anglin.
Throughout their 61 years together, Joel and Mary loved nothing more than spending time together and being with their family, church family and friends. Joel lived life to its fullest, and his family is forever grateful for his unconditional love, encouragement, compassion, wisdom, and the many wonderful memories he leaves with us.

Michael Edward Burchfield, 65, of Alexander, AR entered the presence of God on February 17, 2022. He was born on February 22, 1956, in Waukesha, WI, to Carl and Katie Burchfield.
Mike loved his wife Jessie and their family with his whole heart. He spent most of his free time with Jessie and their children and grandchildren, doing everything from giving four-wheeler rides to instigating YouTube video dance parties, and hosting movie nights and epic grandkid sleepovers. Coming from a close-knit family, he was also devoted to spending time with his parents, siblings, and his many nieces and nephews, enjoying many a game night or just visiting. He embraced Jessie’s large family, and helped provide loving in-home care to Jessie’s parents in their last days.
He was an avid football fan, always rooting for his Green Bay Packers and contemplating how to dominate his various fantasy football leagues.
Loving God above all else, he was an actively involved member of Abundant Life A/G Church in Bryant, Arkansas. He served as a commander of the Royal Rangers for over 15 years, mentoring many young men. Mike was the embodiment of the Ranger spirit, leaving every place better than he found it. He also served as a deacon and leader of the men’s ministry, touching many lives. After a visit to the Philippines in 2010, he became a faithful supporter of the Philippine Mission Fund, supporting churches in and around his late mother-in-law’s remote village.
Mike proudly served in the U.S. Army, from 1975-1978 as a military police officer.
For the past 27 years, Mike worked as a home health respiratory therapist. His coworkers loved him, and his patients truly adored him. He was thoughtful and compassionate to them, always willing to go out of his way to help however he could.
He was preceded in death by his nephews Robert Burchfield and Eric Burchfield and his mother-in-law Pacita Wallace and father-in-law Ova Wallace.
He is survived by his parents, Carl and Katie Burchfield; Jessie, his loving wife of 16 years; brothers David (Pattie) Burchfield and Andy (Tamra) Burchfield; sisters Bonnie (Johnny) Morgan and Cindy (Kelly) Doolin; sons Robbie (Marthann) Burchfield, Josh (Casey)Burchfield, and Shawn (Kacie) Burchfield; daughter Guinte Cranford; grandchildren Austin Whittaker, Emily, Dillion, Payton Addysen, Kady, Slate, and Sloane Burchfield, and Bentley Clement, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and many other loved ones.

Carroll Macy Steele, 76, of Alexander, Arkansas passed away in his sleep during the early morning of Thursday, February 17, 2022, at his home. He was in the presence of his wife, daughter, and son-in-law at his death. His passing followed a brief stay in the hospital where he had been being treated for cancer. He was born to the late, Bill and Eva Steele, on Sunday, June 3, 1945, in Lepanto, Arkansas.
Carroll was a wonderful person; kind to his neighbors, gentle and devoted to his family, highly regarded by his friends and generous toward those in need. He had a varied career as manager of a department store, a grocer, and a route salesman for Frito-Lay, Keebler, and Little Debbie. He retired from public work at 72 and has since kept busy working in his yard and shop, helping his grandchildren and enjoying the outdoors.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Eva Steele, and three brothers, Donny, Ronny, Jerry.
Carroll is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Carlile Steele; his daughter Terri Lynn Steele Butler (Kyle); three grandchildren, Colton Butler (Abigail), Cody Butler (Kaylee), and Cheyenne Swede (Cole); two great grandchildren, Brooks and Corbin; two sisters, Pat Kipp and Sue Eaker; one sister-in-law, Ann Steele; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who all love him and will miss him dearly.
Celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 Visitation at 10:00 A.M. and service at 11:00 A.M at Highway Church Of Christ in Benton, Arkansas.
Carol Benita Jones, 71, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed from this life on February 19, 2022 with her family by her side.
She was born on April 16, 1950, in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, to her parents, Leland and Dorothy Puckett.
Carol loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She was a talented beautician and loved doing hair, talking to people along with being a genuine, good listener. She enjoyed beach time, whenever it was possible. Along with being a wonderful dancer she also loved being social and had great love for her church family.
Ms. Jones is survived by three loving children, including 2 sons, Bryan Elmore, and his wife, Tracy, of Cape Corral, Florida and Marvin Elmore, and his wife, Melissa, of Hensley, Arkansas and one daughter, Amber Elmore, of Hensley, Arkansas. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Cody, Kane, Brandon, Cherish, Michaela and Meghan. Three Great grandchildren; Brayden, Raylan and Archer, along with one sister, Cherrie Arnold and her best special friend, Tommy Tyler, whom will all miss her dearly.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents and 5 siblings; Sue, Charles, Terry and Langley.
A celebration of life for Carol will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 from Noon- 2p.m. in the chapel of Dial & Dudley Funeral Home in Bryant.
