During its January Board meeting, Metroplan awarded seven cities and one county transportation alternative program funding, totaling $2.3 million, to design or construct alternative transportation projects around Central Arkansas. These projects include two in Saline County.

The City of Bryant was awarded $320,000 to construct a 12 ft trail from Alcoa Park to Mills Park. The City of Shannon Hills was awarded $281,000 to construct a 12 ft wide trail from Tall Pine Drive to proposed SW Trail.
The rest of the entities getting funding are as follows:
Austin was awarded $320,000 to construct a 14 ft trail from Highway 38 to Austin City Park.
Cabot was awarded $320,000 to construct a 2 mile-14 ft trail from Cabot High School to Kerr Station Park.
Little Rock was awarded $320,000 to design a portion of the Jonesboro Children’s Trail.
Pulaski County was awarded $320,000 to construct a separated path for bikes and pedestrians on 3.7 miles of Old Hwy 161.
Sherwood was awarded $320,000 to construct a sidewalk connecting neighborhood to proposed Regional Greenways Route.
Ward was awarded $176,000 for their Safe Routes to School.
Metroplan is the federally designated metropolitan planning organization for the four-county region of Faulkner, Lonoke, Pulaski, and Saline counties. It is a voluntary association of local governments that has operated since 1955. For more information, see www.metroplan.org.
