It’s been a while since the land was sold and cleared at the southwest corner of Springhill Road and Highway 5 North. That’s the intersection with US Pizza, Big Red Valero & Baxley Penfield Moudy on the other three corners. We’ve waited long enough to find out what’s going in on that southwest corner. Some said it’s a gas station. Nope. It appears from the sales exchanges that the owners of Big Red bought the land to begin with so they could control whether competition goes in there. If that’s indeed what happened, that’s a really smart move. And they made money from the sale in the process.
And now we can tell you that according to real estate records, and with confirmation from local officials, we find that it’s going to be a branch of Merchants & Farmers Bank.
AF Partners bought it for $850,000 then sold it to R & D Holdings for $1,250,000 who sold it to Farmers & Merchants Bank for $1,538,000.
I know, banks aren’t as exciting as dining or retail or entertainment, but it means jobs and it means a more competitive climate for your banking business.
Hey, just for fun, let’s take a look back at some changes in that intersection, thanks to Google Maps Streetview, we can see how it looked in different recent years.
