They’re here. They are finally here! After weeks of teaser videos on Facebook with the taglines “They’re coming…” and “They’re coming soon…,” the Saline County Library has announced that video games will be available for check out starting Monday, August 29th at 9:00 a.m.
“Several patrons have asked us if we carry video games,” said Leigh Espey, Public Services Manager. “We have board games and even a few video games that you can play at the library, but we recognized a strong desire from our patrons to be able to take video games home. So, we made it happen.”
The selection includes a variety of titles such as:
- Mario,
- LEGO,
- Final Fantasy,
- Marvel,
- Call of Duty,
- Assassin’s Creed,
- Just Dance
- and more.
The games are compatible with:
- Wii,
- WiiU,
- PS3,
- PS4,
- Xbox360
- and Xbox One.
This collection contains a wide variety of ratings including mature (M) rated games.
“We have a good amount of games for circulation right now,” said Espey. “But, we will definitely build our collection as patrons start checking out the games. We will treat them like our DVDs and books. If you don’t see something, we will gladly take the suggestion and look into possibilities for obtaining the requested title.”
The video game check out policy is very similar to the current DVD check out policy.
- The games may be checked out for a week at a time with one renewal.
- Games can be placed on hold, but a patron is limited to only 5 video game holds at a time.
- There is a limit of 2 video games checked out per library card.
- Just like other materials, donations and requests for purchases are accepted but will go through a process to determine if the item will be circulated or purchased.
“This is something I am personally super excited about,” said Espey. “I know my family will be checking out these games. They are free to check out, and the fun lasts a week!”
