Below are the in-person and virtual programs taking place at the Saline County Library for November.

The Saline County Library has a number of upcoming events in November honoring and aiding those in need within the community: a winter clothing drive benefitting a local charity, a Veteran’s Day event to provide a variety of resources to veterans of all ages, a food drive for businesses to donate food and hygiene products, and a pet adoption drive for local shelters to give pets new homes, food, and toys.

Donations of pet food, blankets, and toys are encouraged, but not required to attend. If you aren’t sure about adoption ask about fostering!

Join us at this community event for our local Veterans! Featuring the 106th Military Band, a special Gann Museum exhibit, and a variety of local Veteran organizations such as American Legion, the Veteran’s Service Office, VA Medical, and more.

Battle of the Businesses

From November 12th – 30th, the Saline County Library is organizing a food drive aimed at local businesses to donate food and hygiene products to those in need within the community!

Businesses will compete in a contest to donate the most food to the Saline County Library food pantry, with the winner receiving bragging rights, the coveted Battle of the Businesses Golden Heart Belt, and mentions at the library through social media, email newsletter, and signage displayed at the library.

Hogwarts Night

Journey with us to Hogwarts for the night! Dressing up in your best robes is optional, but encouraged.

Hogwarts Night is for ages 9-18 witches and wizards only! No youngsters or parents allowed. In order to sign up for your wizarding night, you and your guardian will need to sign a contract. Please visit the Bryant branch library to register!

Winter Reading Challenge

It’s time again for Winter Reading! Kickstarting on November 25, 2024 and running into January of next year, this challenge will be at all three library branches.

Our motto this year? “Reading is reading.” Every story, from traditional prose books, to illustrated comic books and graphic novels, to even narratives on television, are AMAZING. This world wouldn’t be as awesome as it is without stories. And winter is the perfect time to curl up with a good book or in in front of the TV. Why not get some prizes while you’re at it?

General Election on November 5!

Remember that on Tuesday, November 5th, is our general election for the next President of the United States. Remember to vote and take part in your democracy!

Library Council Election October 21 – November 5

For those who aren’t eligible to vote this year – did you know the Saline County Library is holding it’s own election? Kids can vote for their favorite fictional characters to be put on the Library Council!

Visit your local Saline County library branch on October 21 – November 5 to cast your vote, learn about the importance of voting, and elect beloved storybook characters!

Veteran’s Day Closure

All Library branches will be closed on Monday, November 11th for the Veteran’s Day holiday.

The Benton and Bryant branches will reopen on Tuesday, November 12th at 10:00 AM. The East End branch will reopen on Tuesday, November 12th at 10:00 AM.

Thanksgiving Day Closure

All library branches and the Gann Museum will be closed on both Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th for the Thanksgiving day holiday. In addition, all library branches will close early on Wednesday November 27that 5:30 PM.

The library will reopen on Monday, December 2nd at 9:00 AM at the Benton and Bryant Branches, and at 10:00 AM at the East End branch. The Gann Museum will reopen on Thursday, December 5th at 9:00 AM.
