Lela Chism announced Thursday, November 9, 2023 that she will file to run for Justice of the Peace on the Saline County Quorum Court in District 2. Her announcement follows:
Responsiveness: Lela firmly believes in a people-first approach to governance. She will actively listen to the concerns and ideas of all residents to foster collaborative solutions that benefit everyone. She is eager to hear your thoughts, concerns, and ideas to ensure all areas receive the attention and support they need.
Accountability: Lela promises to hold the government accountable for its actions and decisions, ensure that public resources are used responsibly and effectively, prioritize the highest standards of transparency in her actions and decision-making, and ensure the community’s interests are at the forefront.
Community: Hateful viewpoints and divisive rhetoric do not reflect the values of our community. Lela understands these viewpoints and this rhetoric often stems from deeper social and economic disparities. Her campaign is committed to addressing these disparities and building a more just and equitable Saline by advocating for affordable housing initiatives, county infrastructure improvements, and local workforce and economic development programs while promoting community dialogues that encourage open and respectful conversations to foster mutual understanding.

She is committed to listening to the diverse voices of our residents and working together to find common-sense solutions that benefit us all.

Throughout the years, Lela has witnessed firsthand the strengths and challenges that our community faces. Growing up in District 2 on Mallard Circle, she attended Davis Elementary where her mother was a substitute teacher and bus aide. She continued to Bryant Middle/JR High after moving to Bryant in her early teens and started her college career in Information Science at UA Little Rock’s Benton Campus. Her eldest daughter graduated from, and two younger children attend, Bryant School District.
A proud civil servant, Lela has worked in the City of Little Rock’s Finance Department for the past 6 years. These experiences drive her commitment to making Saline County an even better place to live and raise a family. She is an active member of the Saline County Democratic Party and Arkansas Progressive Democrats Caucus.
District 2 deserves a leader who listens, understands, and takes action. Lela invites all to join her on Nov 5th, 2024 to begin a journey towards a more accountable and responsive government.
