My Favorite Literary Couples
Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays! Is it because Valentine’s Day is also my birthday? Maybe. I thought, in honor of the day of love I could make a list of my favorite book couples!
#1 Darcy + Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice)
Broody, strong and silent type Darcy falling in love with Elizabeth because she doesn’t put up with his attitude is THE BEST. I love it. Do I think Darcy is kind of a jerk? Sure. But do I also love seeing Lizzy repeatedly put him in his place? Yes. BRB gonna go watch Pride and Prejudice now.
#2 Kaz + Inej (Six of Crows)
Listen, for two very emotionally traumatized people, they end up having a very healthy relationship. I love that their feelings for each other don’t define 100% of who they are. I also love that Inej does not accept any excuses from Kaz. “I will have you without armor, Kaz Brekker. Or I will not have you at all.” #CHILLS
#3 Mr. Knightly + Emma (Emma)
I’m sensing a preference here that I didn’t know I had… but I also love these two because Knightly calls Emma out for her ridiculous behavior without hesitation. It’s also one of my favorite “friends to lovers” tropes. And I think I like both Emma adaptations better than any of the Pride and Prejudice ones. (I said it. Don’t fight me.)
#4 Westley + Princess Buttercup (The Princess Bride)
Have you ever actually read the book? If not, I highly recommend it. The audio is great, too. But I gotta throw in a couple with a sense of humor! Not to mention, they do have a pretty good love story when you really look at it. It’s an unconventional pick, but I stand by my choice!
As an official spokesperson for Valentine’s Day (it’s a self appointed position) I’m sending you love, whether you have a valentine or not!
XOXO
