Book: The Off Limits Rule
Author: Sarah Adams
My Rating: 3 Cliche Stars
Bookworms! I read another romcom, and I wasn’t super crazy about it, but I’m still going to review it because someone else might like it. Maybe I was just in the wrong mood for an ultra sweet romantic comedy? It wasn’t bad. It was just a little too perfect and cliche for me. However, if that appeals to you, then I’m doing my best to give it a fair review here.
Lucy is a single mom, working as a hairdresser. But she just got fired AND dumped and she’s throwing in the towel and moving home to live with her brother. Enter the brother’s hot best friend and a known player, Cooper James. However, Cooper is ready to forsake all other women from the moment he lays eyes on Lucy. The only problem is, his best friend/Lucy’s brother has already warned him to keep his charm and charisma to himself. Will they? Won’t they? Who can say????
Look y’all, in all honesty it was a perfectly fine book. It was funny, it was sweet, it was a tad bit angsty. But I just didn’t have my rose colored glasses on while reading it. And the whole “brother’s best friend” trope is weird to me as a baby sister, because I would never. Just. It wouldn’t happen. However, I can suspend my reality for a book. Cooper is literally perfect. Like, I don’t think he did a single wrong thing for the entire book. So, if a girl is going to fall for her brother’s best friend, it would probably be Cooper “Perfect” James. Every problem they had as a couple was just a series of simple misunderstandings. The biggest obstacle was that her brother wouldn’t approve. I’m just saying, I need a little more conflict.
On the positive side, Lucy has some A+ internal dialogue. And she is 100% a dork. So, I instantly liked her. Cooper, other than being too perfect for my taste (is that even a real complaint?), is a very likable character. Especially, when he’s accidentally teaching Lucy’s son bad words like “freaking” while flying kites at the park. I mean, could it get any more cavity inducing sweet???? I think not.
So, if you’re looking for a quick, adorable romcom that I would give a PG-13 rating, check out The Off Limits Rule this weekend!
