Book: Seeing Miss Heartstone
Author: Nichole Van
My Rating: 5 Hot Air Balloons
Hello, fellow bookworms! Let’s start the year off with a feel good, regency romance. Nichole Van, once again kept me up all night binge reading with Seeing Miss Heartstone. I read this one a few months ago while I was actually waiting for another of her books to come out, so I used this to bide my time.
I was hooked instantly! It begins with a bumbled proposal. You’re thinking, “Been there, done that, don’t care.” Hold your horses. Miss Heartstone ambushes Lord Blake in a park and proposes to him! Unfortunately, he declines, but in the process he inspires Miss Heartstone with his wise words, “You, as a person, are worth far more than a marriage of convenience.” With a new and revolutionary (for a woman at the time) point of view, Miss Heartstone decides to become the businesswoman her father raised her to be. No husband required. One of her first investments is with none other than Lord Blake. Of course, she remains anonymous, despite their correspondence over the course of a few years, and Lord Blake assumes that his anonymous business partner is a man. He returns home and meets the charming and clever Miss Heartstone, completely unaware that they are already friends and business partners. What could possibly go wrong, y’all? Will he find out and be angry? Will they marry and live happily ever after? Who knows?
This book was so cute and wholesome. It featured a strong female lead, without making the male lead weak. There was also a totally swoon-worthy hot air balloon scene that I thought was unique. It was full of angst. You know that good angst that hurts, but you want more of it. Classic Nichole Van! I highly recommend this one if you’re a fan of romance or Jane Austen. And if you’re looking to get your book count up, this one is a quick read!
