Book: The Darcy Legacy: A Pride and Prejudice Variation
- Author: Joana Starnes
- My rating: 4 out of 5 Bennet Sisters
I originally read this book for three reasons. One: I was on a Pride and Prejudice kick, so this was in my Amazon Kindle recommendations. Two: It was a free download. Three: It has one of the WORST covers I’ve ever seen. Seriously, I took a screenshot and had a whole conversation with my sister about how bad it was. The words, “I wonder if those transparent people are ghosts,” were said. (I was not wrong, y’all.)
This is a variation on the original story, so your cast of characters is familiar if you’ve read the original. But, I love when people retell this story and give glimpses from Mr. Darcy’s point of view, which this author does. Plus! There are ghosts! They’re hilarious, and they give us a sort of omniscient point of view in some parts.
There were lots of surprises, but I found myself more amused than confused. Period romance? Check. Ghosts? Check. Romantic comedy? Check. MURDER MYSTERY? Yep, got that too! To be honest, once I accepted that this was a ghost story variation, my reaction to everything else in the story was, “Why not?”
If you enjoy Pride and Prejudice, period romance, romantic comedies, or just quirky stories, I recommend this book to you.
