Book: The Body Reader
- Author: Anne Frasier
- My Rating: 4 out of 5 Goosebumps
My sister recommended The Body Reader to me because she knows that I’m obsessed with all things crime and mystery related. Her disclaimer to me was “It’s creepy, but you’re gonna love it.” She wasn’t wrong, y’all. And Anne Frasier jumps right into the story, this is not a slow starter.
Jude Fontaine is a no nonsense detective who single-handedly escaped captivity after being kidnapped three years ago. Her experiences in captivity have given her a unique ability to read people – dead or alive. She shocks everyone by taking back her role as detective and immersing herself in her job with a new partner. However, her odd behavior, causes her new partner, Uriah, to question her sanity.
When I was incessantly bugging my husband about how awesome this book was, I told him, “It’s like reading an episode of Criminal Minds!” Which is really the best way I can describe it. Jude is a tough heroin, and reading about her experiences and the case she works was a lot to process. I joked with my friends that it was too creepy to read after dark, but I was being half serious! Because I read and watch so many mysteries and true crime shows, I often find myself guessing the big clues, but Anne Frasier kept me on my toes. I absolutely loved this book! I was happy to find out it was part of a series, which I practically inhaled after finishing this book.
Beware, this series addresses gruesome and brutal murders, and is generally creepy. But, if you like the show Criminal Minds, crime and mystery novels, then I recommend this book to you. It’ll be a good spooky read this October!
