Book: Stories I Only Tell My Friends
Author: Rob Lowe
My Rating: 5 Cool Stars
Hey bookworms, I’ve read another biography! Reading non fiction…who am I? I think any 80s kids will really enjoy this one. I’m a 90s kid and I loved it. I mean, it’s the ICONIC Rob Lowe telling stories that are heartfelt, funny, sad… it’s the whole gamut of emotions. There is seriously nothing not to love about this – unless you don’t like Rob Lowe. (And if you don’t like Rob Lowe, then I’m going to assume you’ve never watched Parks and Rec because he is delightful!)
I don’t want to give away any of the stories, especially the first one because he intentionally buries the lead in that one. But each chapter is a story and they are kind of all over the place. His mom waking him up to see the moon landing, his first kiss, filming scenes for Wayne’s World, working with Patrick Swayze, the list goes on. Every story was interesting. Several times I had the thought, “I forgot he did that!” Or “Wow, I had no idea he did that!” Or “Really??? *insert totally unexpected celebrity name here*?!”
My one and only complaint, if we can even call it that, is that I wish I had done this as an audio book so that Rob could actually tell the stories in his own voice. I’m sure it is even better to hear the stories straight from his mouth. I downloaded this book to my kindle app because I recently started watching “Unstable” his new Netflix show and I probably said 453 times how much I love Rob Lowe. And I’m SO glad I read this. By the end I actually did feel like we could be friends, so the book is aptly titled. I highly recommend it, especially if you’re a fan. But I think it has its own merits just as a memoir in general!
